@YUNGJEFF people hate on fishman island but it really does give a lot of lore drop and it really was an arc to showcase how strong the straw hats training paid off

Fishman Island: Arc Review 🐟 (it's a big one) Score: 8/10 Fishman Island was probably the first arc since Skypiea that I was given so much caution about story, pacing, overall lackluster... but in all honesty, I don't understand. This arc had a beautiful aesthetic, a strong theme, really cool ability reveals, an exciting plot and climax, and set up some great world building. - - - - - - - - - 1) Let's start with the aesthetic: This place is gorgeous! One thing I love about One Piece is how colorful of a show it is and this arc is now probably the #1 example of that. Now, I do think they could have done a bit more in terms of exploration and use cases of an underwater kingdom as that's SUCH a vast landscape to create a story, but overall, I think they still did a great job 🫧🪸 2) The theme: Man this arc's theme was cemented so well throughout the entire thing. Oda's depiction of racism through the use of fishmen in his story got all the explanation and reflection in this arc. Being able to look back at the story of Arlong, Nami, Hatchan, Boa and all the people that were affected by the lore of their previous island's struggles here with Otohime, Fisher Tiger and the rest of the Sun Pirates was so interesting to me. This arc, mainly through Otohime, beautifully depicts how difficult it is to create real change in the face of prejudice that’s been passed down for generations. It shows how deeply hatred can take root and influence others, even those who never personally experienced that pain, and how breaking that cycle could even mean choosing to let go of grudges in the hope of building a better future. HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE. MMMMM I think the entire saga of learning how it's taboo for fishmen to give humans their blood, and all the lore behind why with Fisher Tiger and Arlong, to then end the arc with Jinbei giving his blood to Luffy signifying the first big sign of change was really beautiful. What a great scene 🥲 3) This arc gave us TONS of first looks at the Straw Hats new abilities. The entire crew pulled out new moves after their 2 years of training and we finally got to see some of it play out! The amount of badass Luffy scenes we got in this arc alone is insane I'm not gonna list all of the crews' new abilities, you can go back and see it in my tweets if you want, but I will say I'm really loving how much more confident the entire crew is feeling now. I hope that continues more as we get into the New World. Especially Luffy!! That scene of him pushing Zoro and Sanji out of the way to solo Hody and his squad was TUFF. 4) Favorite moments. This arc had SO many good moments, I'm just gonna try to mention some of them that I can remember off top of mind. - Roger being the original owner of the straw hat!! WOW (this might have been return to sabaody idr lol) - Fisher Tiger helping the little girl on his ship - Otohime's death (I cried so hard) - Nami telling Jinbei she has no grudge towards him - Straw Hats arriving to battle scene - Commander Chopper 🫡 - Luffy and Jinbei transfusion scene - Luffy RED HAWK There's probably more I'm forgetting but man it had so many good moments!! I also think the entire storyline with the Noah is really interesting. I think how Decken was able to move this massive ship was a cool concept (hated him tho), and I'm really curious wtf is going on with all this otherworldly lore building! Talking sea kings, ancient weapons, Noah's Ark, "Appointed Time", Joy Boy, etc. WHATS HAPPENINGGGGG I WANT TO KNOW 5) The entire Otohime backstory was my favorite section of the arc. I think she was a fantastically written character with so much depth and emotion. Her death scene made me cry SO hard. Legit a top 5 hardest I've cried in the whole show, the music during that was insanely beautiful Toei cooked there. What really broke me was when Shirahoshi started to cry/freak out and was basically about to destroy the island, the two silly prince brothers who are also bawling their eyes out that their mother just got shot, fight the pain and try to cheer up their sister to save the island. Watching them do a silly dance while knowing they are devastated inside was so 😭 like damn man. What a scene Overall, this arc had so much to love, so many great moments, so many emotional characters and ties back to the theme... I really loved it. - - - - - - - - - - - Now, there were a few things that knocked my score down a bit: 1) I think Hody was not the most entertaining or exciting boss. After watching the whole arc and his grand reveal, he definitely just felt like the embodiment of an idea rather than a fully fleshed out character. Idk if that makes sense lol. Like when I think of Hody, I think you could swap his character out with a different body and it wouldn't matter much, as he was just kind of the festering of generational racism embodied into a character. Whereas other big villains like Crocodile have so much personality, the whole story would be different if they were swapped. I hope this makes sense and I don't sound like an idiot LMFAOOO Hody was alright Vander Decken was one of the worst characters ever, bro is up there with the Celestial Dragons and Absolom on weirdest mfs in the show! Worst as in like, personality. I actually thought his ability and how he used it on the Noah to move this massive ship was kinda cool tbh I also, sadly, don't think King Neptune was all that interesting either. I didn't mind him but I really thought he was going to play a much bigger role in the arc. Not really a negative because idrc if he did or not, just something I expected when he first showed up to how I feel after the arc is done now 🙂 2) I think in the span of the 52 episodes or so that this arc is, there was likeeee 10 episodes in total where the pacing was a bit stretched. Mainly to me in the arrival onto the island, and the big fight scene at the end. Probably like 5 & 5. Which, tbh, is not a big deal at all!! But I could totally see if you're watching week-to-week how an entire month of seeing like 3 new abilities could be annoying. But, I think watching now when you can crank through episodes or take a break at your disposal... I didn't mind it much at all! Maybe I'm crazy but it really was not an issue that came up for me much 3) Like I mentioned before, while I do think this arc was beautiful with an incredible story and lots of great moments, I just would have liked to see a tiny bit more of exploration or something like that from an entire arc of being in a vast underwater world. Like Robin finding the poneglpyh was so quick, that would have been a perfect place for some extra flair to the mystery and adventure. This one's not a huge point though because they did do a TON of great stuff with the atmosphere too. 4) HOW DID NONE OF THE CREW TALK ABOUT WHAT THEY DID IN THE 2 YEARS?? HELLO TELL ME ABOUT ROBIN AND DRAGON. TELL ME WHY ZORO'S EYE IS CLOSED. TELL ME HOW MANY BOOKS CHOPPER READ. AHHHHH WHY - - - - - - - - - The last thing was all the setup they did going forward! You can scroll through my past tweets to see all the updates I don't want to re-list them all out, but here are my key takeaways for the world building so far: - 1 more mentioned ancient weapon to find "Uranus" - Who tf is Joy Boy? silly ahh name 🤪 - Why could Luffy hear the sea kings talk just like Roger could? - Who is the "them" that can fix the Noah and what is the "appointed time?" - What is Aokiji up to now that he's not in the Navy? - Big Mom seems like the next big emperor that will be in the story 🍬 - - - - - - - - - Ok this post is getting long af 😭 Yall get my point. If you even read this far shoutout to you, thanks for reading my word avalanche of a post :) There's probably a few key things I didn't mention and it's probably just cuz I forgot rn without looking at all my notes. But I will try to get to them in my next video! TL;DR: Arc is beautiful. Story and theme are incredible. Lot's of great moments. Misses the mark a tad on pacing (not that bad tho) and some of its characters. Really cool world building in the second-half! I'M REALLY EXCITED TO SEE MORE CREW UPDATES, MORE WORLD BUILDING, AND FOR YOU ALL TO BE ALONG FOR THE JOURNEY WITH ME ❤️ ON TO PUNK HAZARD ⛵️ (gonna start this weekend)
