Yesterday @lewishamlabour launched a bold, progressive and ambitious manifesto, led by our innovative Mayoral Candidate Amanda De Ryk. We have a proven track record of delivering for our communities, and we are a movement far bigger than any one individual or small group. Our strength lies in our shared values, our collective effort, and our unwavering commitment to the people we serve. That will never change. We are building a Lewisham that works for everyone, and the best is still to come. drive.usercontent.google.com/download?id=1j…

"With the seemingly endless trickle of announcements from people defecting from Labour to the Green Party, I’ll explain why I have been one, although certainly not the only one, to recently make the journey the other way." Me today for @LabourList labourlist.org/2026/03/green-…

Lovely evening Lewisham East CLP meeting to talk about the work of the NEC, my role as Chair of Equalities and the party’s investment in campaign technology. Always nice to be back in @JanetDaby’s patch, where I helped on her campaign 8 years ago.

Really pleased to see Goldsmiths, University of London announce plans for a new campus in Catford. This is a strong example of our partnership in action, working together to bring investment, creativity and opportunity into the heart of the borough. The new campus has the potential to support regeneration, skills and access to education for local people, and is a real vote of confidence in Catford and Lewisham’s future. 🔗 lewisham.gov.uk/articles/news/…

.@PaulBell1971 has served as a Cabinet Member for the last eight years, leading on some of the most critical issues facing Lewisham—from housing to adult social care. I’m delighted to have the backing of somebody with so much experience of putting our Labour values into practice

@LNallalingham Option 1: Two councils delivering the same services to the same number of people with the same number of staff but one spends nineteen times more on offices and facilities as the other Option 2: The data you are reporting doesn't cover the same things Which seems more likely?

@LNallalingham Lewisham isn't spending nineteen times as much on offices & facilities as Greenwich. Different Council's break down & report their spending in different ways which often makes dirrect comparisons difficult.

Delivering services costs money. Salaries need paying, buildings need heating and lighting, specialist proffesional services have to be aquired. Could local government be better? Yes. Does some money get spent on silly things? Yes. But the public is not being ripped off.

£440 million on office & facilities management! Outrageous, surely? No. It's £88 million a year on dozens of buildings and sites - offices, community centres, libraries, vehicle depots. Buildings cost money. Are staff all meant to work from home?

£830 million... over five years. For a Council with a £1 billion budget, providing services to 300,000 people and employing over 3,500 staff. £370,743 a year on recruitment. £296,055 a year on marketing. £3 million a year on legal fees. As part of a £1 billion budget.

I’m proud to call Lewisham my home and I’m proud of the difference Labour has made in our community. But there is more we can do. I’ve got a vision for a Lewisham where everyone can feel safe and live well. A borough full of opportunity, where everyone can afford a decent life.
