@Raji_James @rossagrant Fair enough. I don’t think it’s a “they should be banned” situation, they obviously work for certain situations.

@JamesAlexandrou @rossagrant I prefer self tapes as a first contact. I live outside of London so huge saving on travel & time. Yes, it's stressful and you're totally self-reliant but I only submit what I'm happy with. Success rate with self tapes is better than in-room. Recommend the "script rehearser" app.

Have to respectfully disagree with Olivia on this. 👉 indiewire.com/news/general-n… How is it ‘disrespectful’ or ‘really rude’ for a casting director to offer an actor an opportunity to land a job, often worth £thousands (or hundreds of £thousands in Olivia’s case) in their own time, from their own home? 🤷🏻‍♂️ If you don’t want the opportunity, just politely decline the tape - it’s simple. Tapes are saving actors £hundreds in train fares and opening up casting to disabled artists all over the country, who may be unable to travel at short notice. The net positives, far outweigh the negatives from the feedback I get from most actors - and recalls are still almost always in the room. For a first round, tapes are highly efficient and give CD’s scope to take many more risks on unknown talent. Being in the room is great, but to call self-tapes ‘disrespectful’ and ‘rude’ are the wrong adjectives here.

@alicelowe @rossagrant I think it’s like this. If you choose to cast through tapes - don’t be a dick. Don’t ask for 15 pages tomorrow. Do reply to every submission.

@JamesAlexandrou @rossagrant there are benefits to self taping. but there are drawbacks too. there should be the choice. and increasingly there's not. becoming industry standard and I think to the detriment of the quality of casting. you don't get interaction or correct feedback or even watched sometimes

As the @arcolatheatre says, book now! Casserole is an incredible play. The staging is amazing, you feel in the flat w/ Dom & Kate, esp. if you're in B6 where you are literally in the kitchen & can smell the food from the microwave! @JamesAlexandrou & @katekellyflood own the space!
