Good to see the answer from Ornstein, much more in line with everything I’ve heard. Plenty of checks and inquiries to representatives have gone in on coaches. Quite a few resulting in being struck from the list. But there remains some coaches with eyes on them, and the performances and results over the next few weeks could change the landscape. Each game good or bad is a part of Carricks case for the job vs alternatives.

I think some people forget we were joint 5th when Amorim got sacked. Getting Chsmpions League football would be great but Liverpool have taken 15 points from 33 since Carrick came in and Chelsea have imploded.

I think there are bits about Nagelsmann that are grey areas in terms of him potentially being the United manager but honestly, I’ve had my head down doing a lot of research and a lot of ideas, for me*, fit beautifully;.. vertical, (can be) direct, very flexible (sometimes maybe he has too many ideas) high octane, faster tempo, overloads of bodies central to encourage combinations & unique openings, emphasis on creative wingers. I’ve been watching a lot of interviews with him, his English is so good. He seems like a great communicator, often talks about how many 1-to-1s he has every day with his players. I know he can be a bit messy & scattered given he’s still so young but I really really like him.

@markgoldbridge Iriola would be a far better choice than Naglesmann I hope they talk to him but Enrique and Tuchel were the outstanding candidates if neither are available I am happy to give it to Carrick on a short term contract

These Carrick getting the job rumours are ridiculous. It's a HUGE risk giving it an interim anyway. But to give it to him without even bothering to interview others is a disgrace by the board. Best in class? Exactly what they did with Ole. Nothing ever changes do the same thing

🚨 Manchester United’s permanent manager search has narrowed to two realistic candidates: Julian Nagelsmann & Michael Carrick. Nagelsmann offers the bold reset. Young, tactically sharp, and experienced with Leipzig, Bayern and Germany, he’d bring a modern, ambitious style. However, he lacks Premier League experience and has question marks over man-management. Carrick is the safe, familiar option. He knows the club, the players and the culture inside out. The risk is that it’s a huge step up, and he’s still unproven as a number one. INEOS must decide quickly. The uncertainty is hurting recruitment - targets like Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali want clarity on the manager, system and their role which was mentioned @FabrizioRomano. If it’s Carrick, commit now: give him a three-year deal and back him properly.

This was always the likely outcome after 11 years of poor decisions and mismanagement. Manchester United now have to push hard for Julian Nagelsmann, but there’s a real chance he turns it down at this stage. If that happens, Michael Carrick is probably the best available option. As for names like De Zerbi, Pochettino or Glasner, I’m not convinced they’re suited to the scale and pressure of the biggest job in English football.

📍Provided Carrick gets us UCL, managerial decision now comes down to one simple difference of outlook amongst fans. 📍That difference can be formulated by asking the simple question : “Do you expect/want to hit the ground running next season?” — If yes, Carrick is the logical bet as he has already got things going in what is a results business. — If you don’t expect to hit the ground running and are in a permanent rebuild mode, then you will want a different name to start a rebuild again. 📍Nobody new who comes in will straight away move towards challenging for something without taking at least a season to get things going their way. 📍They will expect their signings and they will expect their own time on the training pitch to marinate their own methods, getting to know the players. 📍Confound this with the complication that two of our best alternatives according to fans - Enrique and Nagelsmann - are both up in the air situations. — one showing preference to continue with his current club and the other occupied by a World Cup, which further hurts preparation and our chances of starting the season hitting the ground running. 📍Carrick and his coaching staff on the contrary have already put in this valuable time which a new managerial team (let’s say it is Nagelsmann since Enrique seems to be written off) will need if they join after the World Cup. 📍Continuing with Carrick saves us valuable time on those fronts and possibly another season written off to facilitate a new managerial team that may or may not eventually work. 📍Carrick himself may ultimately not succeed, but at least the report card on that can already be started to be made next season itself rather than the season after - which will be the case if a new man joins. 📍More than ever this ultimately comes down to appetite from club and fans - — Are they tired of constantly being in rebuild mode and want to push for more ? — Or do they still have an appetite to perpetually pretend they have to rebuild every summer? Decide that and your managerial choice is already decided. 📍For me it makes sense to continue with whoever is getting results. Especially considering Luis Enrique, my top contender alongside Carrick, is more or less seeming like a futile pursuit. 📍In a results business Carrick has been in control of the hardest variable in the toughest run - the result. If results are good enough, he is good enough.

Luis Enrique is understood to be happy at PSG and has held positive talks in recent days over a contract extension. Enrique was highly rated internally at #MUFC which means another top candidate is ruled out for the head coach role. Michael Carrick is being seriously considered.

• Julian Nagelsmann: Elite experience (Germany, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig), clear tactical identity, ambitious reset - but no PL experience and would require full backing & patience. • Michael Carrick: Knows the club, calm presence, cultural fit - but huge step up from interim to permanent & unproven at the top level. What should Manchester United do, go bold or go familiar? 👇💬 #MUFC
