Most of the popular opinion is that artificial intelligence (AI) will eliminate thousands of jobs and the economy will suffer accordingly. Chris Bradley with McKinsey Global Institute presents a different much more positive vision of the world with AI in the book A Century of Plenty: A Story of Progress for Generations to Come. He discussed it at a recent book talk with the Economic Club of New York where he said, “The job of this book is less about science and more about hearts and minds, because we've got to undo three ideas: that growth's not good, that growth's not for everybody, and that growth's not possible.” Bradley made several positive, but provocative, statements about what the world will look like in the next 100 years. This includes incredible global economic growth and improved quality of life for most of the world suggesting we could all live in relative abundance and good government with Switzerland being the model. About AI, he said, “AI is like a supercar, but it's only got three wheels, and therefore it has zero economic value... a ‘jagged technology.’ But if you come along and you've got the wheel, you're suddenly providing all the economic value.” Bradley’s vision of the future sounds fascinating. Adding this book to the “to be read” list. #ECNYBradley
