A dream so fragile that it can only be whispered.

Hot take: The only actor in this graphic that I am fascinated by and believe has serious potential is Lily-Rose Depp. As someone rightly points out in the replies though, Riley Keough (not-pictured) is one of the stand-out 'nepo babies'.

A fantastic, almost abstract, depiction of the mass movement of soldiers.

Aleksandr Ptushko's Ilya Muromets is some of the most impressive fantasy ever filmed. It is very nationalistic (e.g. it opens on a title card basically saying Russian's have the biggest cocks) but it is hard to deny it's grandeur.

@8our4ight I'll make sure to check what parts of art you care about first before I post from now on 👍

@JamesDreamin its not even remotely the same thing. you only see this superficial resemblance because you dont care about the parts of art that matter to me at all.

@incend1e x.com/i/status/20321… 100% agree, the conquerors more so than any other previously filmed Targaryen, should feel completely foreign to Westeros and the audience. It should feel like 3 omnipotent aliens landed, took over and started adapting to local culture.
James@JamesDreamin

For me, as the Targaryen mother tongue is High Valyrian I have always imagined them speaking the 'common tongue' (read: English) with a continental accent. I'd really love to see them go that route with the Conqueror film/series.

I'm a mere 4 minutes into Stanisław Różewicz's The Lynx and I'm already kind of awestruck by the incredible spatial layering of its photography...

@DCGranville It really was! It follows a priest in Nazi-occupied Poland and its imagery really evoked the feeling of being open in the wild; to the judging eye of God and voracious eyes of a predator. After the opening 4 mins it hard cuts to this close-up, toying with our personal space.

Bresson's removal of the 'Passion' from Joan of Arc with his 'Trial' leaves us with cold realty; the male persecution of the female. A trial not of action but the status of one's maidenhead and her style of clothing. Punishing God for speaking through female lips, and not theirs.

The second part, Jeanne (2019,) expands the aesthetic whilst changing the form. Youthful rebellion replaced with the melancholy of decisive action. The on-location diegetic anthems from the young cast here replaced with angelic laments by Christophe. Grandiose and utilitarian.

Jeannette: The Childhood of Joan of Arc is a Straub–Huillet rock opera. The 21st century Maid in the 15th. Early teen angst, existential grappling with the tenets taught and dialogue with God all communicated through the music of youthful rebellion.
