🚨🇨🇦 BREAKING: The EBU has announced that CBC/Radio-Canada is now a full member of the European Broadcasting Union.
Canada joining the EBU means the country is now eligible to compete at the #Eurovision Song Contest, and could do so as early as 2027.

@DiogoJorge23065 As it stands, no. The new criteria states only broadcasters from countries who have formal observer status with the Council of Europe can join as full members. Australia doesn't.
SBS are still Associate Members but the EBU has reiterated on record today they can still compete.

I’ve confirmed from official sources that the position on ESC is unchanged - only Full Members have the right to participate in Eurovision, plus Australia/SBS via special arrangement.
Ancillary Membership does not enable ESC participation.

Realistically in my opinion, given the appearance of funds explicitly for Eurovision in Canada’s state budget, it is a matter of when, not if, Canada announces its participation. I’d be shocked if they weren’t in Bulgaria next year.

🚨🇨🇦 Canada’s public broadcaster CBC has become a full member of the European Broadcasting Union. Canada would therefore now be entitled to participate in Eurovision if they chose to do so.

Broadcasters joining must have "formal observer status with the Council of Europe" as well, which Canada's broadcaster has.
Other broadcasters who meet both of these criteria are now eligible to be full members of the EBU.
