SEVEN DAYS IN MAY [1964] Directed by John Frankenheimer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This movie was recommended to me a couple of years ago, I'd never even heard of it. It is absolutely exceptional. It's a Rod Serling script, with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas. That sentence alone should be convince you. If you haven't seen it, make time for it, then come back and tell me I was right. Here's the synopsis: "A political thriller film directed by John Frankenheimer, based on the novel by Fletcher Knebel and Charles W. Bailey II, with a screenplay by Rod Serling. It stars Burt Lancaster as a hawkish general and Kirk Douglas as his aide, who uncovers a plot by the general and other military and political figures to overthrow the U.S. President (Fredric March) after he signs a nuclear disarmament treaty with the Soviet Union. The film is a tense race against time, exploring the fragility of democracy and Cold War paranoia, and features a notable supporting cast including Ava Gardner."

FROM HERE TO ETERNITY [1953] Directed by Fred Zinnemann ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This movie is special. It boasts a cast of: Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Frank Sinatra, Donna Reed, Ernest Borgnine, and Jack Warner (among others). As if that wasn't enough, it is the winner of the Academy Award for: Best Picture, Best Director, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. Here's the synopsis: "A critically acclaimed drama directed by Fred Zinnemann, set in a U.S. Army barracks in Hawaii in the months before the attack on Pearl Harbor, exploring the lives, loves, and conflicts of soldiers, including a boxing-averse private (Montgomery Clift), a tough sergeant (Burt Lancaster), his commanding officer's wife (Deborah Kerr), and a rebellious private (Frank Sinatra). The film was a major box office and awards success, winning eight Oscars, including Best Picture, and is known for its mature themes, iconic performances, and poignant look at military life leading up to the war."

Remembering Audrey Hepburn on her 97th birthday! Paramount originally wanted to shoot "Roman Holiday" (1953) in Hollywood. William Wyler refused, insisting it must be shot on location. They finally agreed, but with a much lower budget. This meant the movie would be in black and white, not the expected Technicolor, and he would need to cast an unknown actress as the Princess, Audrey Hepburn. She went on to win an Oscar for the role.
