"Kenyans, this country is broke. The minute the judges get this benefit, everyone else will get on this bandwagon. Very soon, the 4,000+ current magistrates will demand the same benefits. How many Kenyans can afford a Chef?" ~ Diana Gichengo – Executive Director, The Institute for Social Accountability @TISAKenya @dianagichengo #TheKenyaWeWant #AccountabilityNow

“The court of justice is conflicted on this matter of their benefits; we therefore want public determination on this matter. We are here as part of that public. “These kinds of costs are unbearable. They are unjustifiable. We are going to organise a powerful public action because we believe it’s only the public who can stop this. It’s only from the pressure we put as the public that we will stop these excesses. This is only the beginning. We will not retire until we see things change." ~Davis Malombe is the Executive Director of the Kenya Human Rights Commission @thekhrc #CostofJustice #TheKenyaWeWant #AccountabilityNow

Memorandum: Public Participation Bill, 2025 (National Assembly Bills No. 44) The Public Participation Bill, 2025, seeks to guide citizens' engagement with government decisions in Kenya. Over time, various drafts of this Bill have demonstrated real progress, reflecting Kenya’s dedication to strengthening democracy and amplifying citizens' voices in governance. This Bill should serve as a clear and guiding framework for both national and county governments, ensuring public participation remains consistent, inclusive, and accountable. In our Memorandum, @katibainstitute proposes that the Bill be anchored in the Constitution, particularly Articles 1, 10, 118, 174, 201 and 221(5), to embed public participation within both devolved governance and national budget processes. It also advocates for mandatory inclusivity measures, prior civic education and public sensitisation, and guaranteed access to information through the timely publication of materials in accessible formats and languages. Currently, the Bill risks reducing public participation to a procedural formality, rather than the meaningful, people-driven process envisioned by the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. I had such a lovely experience today with an IEBC senior staff attached to the Kiambu township office located in Mapaa House 4th floor. Voter turnout today was good. We have had over 400 new registered voters and she has been so supportive. She’s advised that the IEBC office will remain closed tomorrow Friday 27th 2026. However, Registration of voters services will still be offered at Jitume ICT HUB where they shall also be conducting training of clerks in preparing for Enhanced voter registration exercise which kicks off on monday 30th March 2026. #TukoKadi
