Ruth Chepng'etich is another on the long, long list of athletes represented by Federico Rosa to receive a ban/provisional suspension worldathletics.org/athletes/athle…. Athletes don't choose to dope alone, when will it end?

This is unbelievably stupid. It was USATF's mistake that caused the selection problem, it should be their job to fix it and select the same number of athletes as every other country. Can't imagine World Athletics making this kind of concession for any of its other members...
CITIUS MAG@CitiusMag

🇺🇸 On a strictly one-time basis, World Athletics has approved an expanded seven-woman U.S. team for the women's half marathon at the 2026 World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen (Sept. 19-20), up from the standard four. This comes after three American women (Jess McClain, Emma Grace Hurley and Ednah Kurgat) were robbed of a likely podium finish at the USATF Half Marathon Championships in Atlanta after a police injury caused the lead vehicle to direct the front pack off course The seven spots team will be: 3 off-course athletes: Jess McClain, Emma Grace Hurley, Ednah Kurgat 3 official top finishers: Molly Born, Carrie Ellwood, Annie Rodenfels 1 world ranking selection (as of May 5) 🗣️ CEO Max Siegel: “From the moment this happened, our focus was on doing right by the athletes. Jessica, Emma Grace, and Ednah had clearly separated themselves in the race and we are sorry they did not get to celebrate their accomplishment by breaking the tape. On behalf of everyone at USA Track & Field, I want to thank World Athletics. Their council and leadership are committed to a fair and athlete-centered solution that preserves the integrity of competition while recognizing the reality of what occurred in Atlanta.” How will it work in Copenhagen? USATF will designate four scoring athletes and three non-scoring athletes. The non-scoring trio are full Team USATF members and will earn World Athletics ranking points, but cannot contribute to team scoring, win medals, or receive official prize money and will wear a distinct kit. USATF will cover all additional expenses and will pay out any prize money non-scoring athletes earn on their own. 🔜 The full U.S. team will be named following the USATF 1 Mile Championships (April 22) and USATF 5K Championships (May 2).

Here's the issue with this ban. 1 - It was silent. 2 - they allowed this athlete to continue to train alongside her collegiate teammates whilst under the ban. 3 - The athletes who rightfully won medals missed THEIR opportunities for recognition and sponsorship moments.

The AIU has banned Adaejah Hodge (BVI) for 2 years, from 28 August 2024 (with 7 months suspended, i.e. until 27 January 2026), for the Presence/Use of Prohibited Substances (GW501516 sulfone and GW501516 sulfoxide). DQ results since 28 August 2024.

This is an unbelievably basic loophole in the NCAA bylaws, and really shows how little the NCAA intends to do about doping concerns. The NCAA requires a positive test for action, whereas Article 2 of WADA Code lists 11 different violations incl possession of banned substances

According to the allegations, Seth Clevenger took EPO and BPC-157 (a muscle-healing peptide), was removed from the Iowa State team, but is now able to dominate DIII with no ban. An absolute bizarre situation showcasing the need for fundamental changes across the NCAA + USADA

Great investigative piece here on the long-term fallout of the Iowa State doping allegations last Oct. Seems incredible that the NCAA is not a signatory to WADA considering its central role in developing so many top US/intl stars, and increasing $ available through NIL deals
Jonathan Gault@jgault13

Multiple former teammates allege that the #1 runner in Division III admitted to using banned substances last fall at Iowa State. Yet Rowan University has allowed him to compete this season. The situation exposes the holes in the NCAA's anti-doping policy. letsrun.com/news/2026/03/a…

Will be interesting to see how the 2027 Code changes impact cases like this in practice (changes made on ban length for unintentional doping in Article 10.2.1). With increasing test specificity + more common supplement use, don't be surprised to see more cases in this model

There's a difference between pursuing suspected dopers with the full force of the law and cases like this. Unfortunately, the WADA Code doesn't appreciate this nuance, nor do most NADOs/IFs. Leads to cases where orgs take a positive and run with it, rather than contextualising it

The Tara Moore case rolls on - 4 years after her positive test, she's now suing the WTA for failing to inform players about known meat contamination risks at the tournament she tested positive at: nytimes.com/athletic/70653…
James Rennie@James_1871

Reading the Tara Moore case and I think I’m going insane. This section of the original Sports Resolutions report makes it sound like a slam-dunk contamination case: 3/21 players at the same tournament with the same positive, and no link of training, coaches, agents etc

Shame to see this on the same day that the Enhanced Games announces further private equity investment valuing it at $1.2 billion(!)

Recent NCAA cases have centred around supposedly rogue individuals (e.g. Parvej Kahn, EPO positive from Uni of Florida). Anything involving a wider team should surely lead to big consequences

@RunEmilyERun Unfortunately I think Hunt is still with the wider Rosa group based on her instagram (unless a post-Tokyo change). Neita the only other British sprinter, then King is their first British mid-distance athlete (that I know of - not sure if there have been any previously)

@RunEmilyERun The result from that has been DQ'd because of his ban. Although having said that I'm not sure the Enhanced Games will care if a result has been DQ'd!

@highbee92 They are for now, but a late change to her story and details relating to banned substances found on her phone are certainly not a good look for Chepng'etich. Will be interesting to see if the AIU uncover anything further

Chepng'etich banned for 3 years. Full case report here, but headlines are: 1) Ban is 1yr more than the minimum for that substance 2) AIU found Whatsapps relating to testosterone on her phone 3) She changed her story explaining the +ve in Aug '25, months after 1st interview
Athletics Integrity Unit@aiu_athletics

The AIU has banned Ruth Chepng’etich (Kenya) for 3 years from 19 April 2025 for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Hydrochlorothiazide). DQ results from 14 March 2025. Details here: bit.ly/Press-Release_… bit.ly/Ruth-CHEPNGETI… bit.ly/First-Instance…

Para 36 here is key - Chepng'etich being asked by another athlete whom she regularly conversed with to explain how testosterone works. We can only speculate why the athlete (and the unknown third party) thought Chepng'etich would know how it works...

The testosterone info is the most significant finding here - it's one thing being banned for a possible masking agent, but this is the closest proof the AIU have to what a masking agent may have been used to cover
