Well, well, well! With all the abuse garnered by the wide reviews in the IPL, I had a look at the data. It turns out that wide reviews from the bowling side are overturned MORE OFTEN than wicket reviews! Also, bowlers are emotional and irrational reviewing wkts.

Archer currently has 13 wickets at 21/8.5 in the first six overs of T20s this year, the most of any bowler. Not quite his incredible 17/5.4 2020 peak, but a lovely improvement from 2021-24 when he averaged over 40.

Since Phil Salt started opening for RCB, Kohli has faced just 15% of spin balls in the powerplay. From 2021-24, that number was 26% Salt scores at 269 vs Spin in the powerplay during that time. Even when he doesn't score many runs, he is aiding Kohli.

@dweplea Assuming it's a case of most bowlers don't target the stumps as much as they should. But the ones who do it most have other good attributes such as weird angles. And like most plans, it's a bell curve of effectiveness not just a linear of more =better

This just goes to show why a good partnership is important, you play to each others strengthens and you cover for each others weaknesses And this also goes to show why you never judge a player purely on runs scored.
