Jurgen Klopp handled the situation well last night after the game. Most football fans will have had empathy with what happened and recognised it was wrong! However Liverpools statement tonight is a mistake! Talk of exploring all options ( what does that mean!!! ) and sporting integrity are dangerous phrases along with being vague and aggressive. It doesn’t help that money is still the most powerful entity in the English game. Nations with extremely worrying human rights records are welcomed into the game with open arms. FFP is a pretend concept. It gives the feeling that almost anyone can be bought. The reason people think it’s a conspiracy is because they’re looking for rational explanations for irrational situations. Everything is hidden behind Howard Webb’s cloak of secrecy, anything we do see is protected by the FA and their refusal to allow criticism of officials. PGMOL are leaking reasons for the offside call, not sharing them openly. The FA let PGMOL decide if it’s ok for officials to travel 4,500 miles to officiate in a game in an unconnected league 48 hours before they work on a Premier League fixture that could ultimately decide who wins the title. The lack of transparency is one of the main contributors to fans thinking something more sinister is going on. The referees act like arrogant royalty, thinking they have no need to explain, that it’s their right to be considered always right. The conspiracy is that the FA long since stopped putting the good of the game as their top priority. Their faux outrage about the super league was more about the fear of losing their power and control than about any pretence of caring about the good of the game. If they cared about the good of the game they’d have already called their own investigation. They’d have done it long ago. They don’t care.
