I'm a consultant in Emergency Medicine and I work plenty of weekends.
And evenings.
And night shifts.
I don't want to work any more than I already am. Why should I make up for decades worth of workforce neglect?
There's just not enough of us.
That is not OUR fault.

There is a reference to a workforce plan, which is welcome, but if @Jeremy_Hunt wishes to be able to take "full account of improvements in retention" he needs to do something about improving retention - and to do that - he MUST address punitive pension taxation

So it isn’t even that nhs pensions cost a lot, they are actually generating money for the government. Just make it fair and predictable so people can work without fear of huge tax bills.

Interesting the just released @nhs_pensions accounts show biggest surplus in recent times of cash flowing TO @hmtreasury Its almost as if the cost cap mechanism should have picked up a floor breach & increased benefits/decreased contributions Oh wait it did & gov. ignored it

After 14y of real-terms pay cuts will you commit to

2️⃣fix national scandal of punitive pensions tax driving doctors to retire early/ reduce their hours

Need to start listening to @BMA_Pensions & offer an enduring solution (like the judicial pension scheme)

#CrazySocks4Docs Many medical women suffer from PND. My perinatal psych assured me “you’re not he only doctor in Newcastle I’ve seen with PND, Jen”. Being a doctor doesn’t make you immune from MH problems: if anything it makes us more vulnerable.
