@mbcornfarmer I didn’t send in for those tests, the seed is what I scooped out of a bag a couple years ago and I will acknowledge vigor doesn’t improve with age so that could contribute to the differences but I still think it’s a valid visual demo of what something widely known to impact corn

@JamieKlost What was the cold sat germ on that seed and the accelerated aging score?

@thekbaldwin In my experience, wheat seed seems to handle cold weather stress much better than corn seed. Although I can’t say how much better it handles it cause I haven’t researched wheat in this stress all that much.

@JamieKlost Curious if affects spring wheat also!

@JasonSchley I have recently used the seed for other things with better consistency, the difference in this demo is I’m pressing the seeds against the plastic to be visible for video, the seed to soil contact is likely not equal between all the seeds and they might have imbibed water at rates

@JamieKlost Thanks for sharing. What’s most concerning to me is this image from your video. Why can’t we get more even emergence with perfect conditions. 4 out of 7 isn’t a great stat line considering perfect conditions.

@CRNAfarmer @RocknRollAgrnmy I wondered the same thing...i have 2 thoughts on it: 1. I pressed the seed embryo against the plastic to try see the radical as it came out via time lapse so maybe that had an impact, 2. The seed I used was a couple years old and maybe there is a little bit of loss of vigor.

@JamieKlost @RocknRollAgrnmy Very interesting, thanks for sharing! What caused some of the 70 degree plants to emerge 4-6 days later than the first ones out of the ground?
