
Anyone with open eyes can recognize that the bigotry, intolerance, and contempt for democratic values on parts of the far left are no less odious than what we see on the far right.
This toxic extremism from both ends of the political spectrum is tearing at the fabric of our society.
Americans of good faith, across every background and belief, should reject both poles of this politics of division and commit to the harder and more necessary work of rebuilding a shared commitment to truth, accountability, civility, mutual respect, pluralism, and democratic norms.
As we approach our 250th birthday, the real test of our character is not whether we win against one another, but whether we can come together around the values that made this country worth building in the first place.
Building a more perfect union and a stronger democracy requires continuous effort. Doing so is all of our responsibility.
