Clash of the Champions alone blows this up.
WCW spent years airing marquee, PPV-level matches on free TV, to the point WWE’s own history of Clash describes it that way.
So this is not really about precedent. It is about you disliking AEW’s version of it.

i was making the “they should market to weeb non-wrestling fans” argument during the 2010s, and there’s actually way more weebs now than there were then! so idk why TJPW is the only promotion who can figure this out, it seems so obvious to me lol

Stardom and Marigold do not market outside of Japan much, while TJPW's promotion in Texas has been really good. The company in charge has marketed to weeaboos instead of wrestling fans, and with a product like TJPW's that pays off well.

Crossover: Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in April, per ESPN sources. Rodman made his WCW debut in 1997 and famously skipped a practice during the 1998 NBA Finals for a wrestling match alongside Hulk Hogan. Two HOFs for Rodman.
