To mimic Gartner's Hype Cycle, I'm wondering if what we are currently going through in insurance innovation is the "Trough of Disillusionment" for InsurTech 1.0
While InsurTech 2.0 is at "Technology Trigger" (having in mind almost half of every deal done in InsurTech Europe over the last 18 months were at Seed stage).

What happens when the VC market is frozen ?
Well, I had a look at every InsurTech startups that announced a round in 2021 (i.e. 18-24 months ago) and how their teams have evolved.
In average the have downsized their teams by -15.5%.

Here we are in the European InsurTech scene too 📉 The drop in VC money is eventually having an impact on startups' teams. And there are two patterns spotted among Series A / B startups : 1) those that had no other choice have removed employees (the pattern is ~20%) ; 2) the most performing and / or those that raised money more recently have rather stopped new hires. In both cases that's what we spotted in the US tech market last year. (Source: LinkedIn. Note that the scale is not the same on the two charts and I removed raw figures to avoid spotting which startups they are coming from, as the idea is to illustrate a pattern rather than highlight X or Y player)
