#Tether market cap is $80bn. That's 80.000.000.000 coins (#USDT) worth a dollar each, exchangeable into greenbacks at any time - in theory. Question is: what's in Tether's "vault"? Cash? Treasuries? Near worthless commercial paper? Helium? No one knows. But we might find out.

@tomhillenbrand Even if #USDT is overcollateralized in liquid assets, they cannot just dump billions of dollars without dragging the price of the underlying instruments. As the value of the collateral falls, we get an undercollateralized "stable" coin entering a death spiral.
