There is a precedent for today's ele tion results. In 1968 Labour under Harold Wilson lost among other strongholds, Glasgow, Hull and Sunderland and yet came withon a whisker of winning the 1970 general election. Have yet to any mention of this by our esteemed commentariat.

I hope you can picture how large was my grin as I stood here in the quiet dawn and watched these ladies walk determinedly, solemnly, across their field. They were cheered on by a couple of skylarks high above, and the light spilling over those layers of hills was perfect, soft and golden. For those few moments, in this little patch of England, all felt well with the world. 📍 Peak District, England

The bandwidth sucked up by the Mandelson non-story is embarrassing. A minor appointment taken in what was perceived to be the national interest. Astonishing that the Westminster bubble is still obsessed but then tittle tattle started to define British politics a long time ago

Israel’s murder of journalists continues. The details of what happened to Amal Khalil are horrific. The Red Cross tried to rescue her but were themselves fired on. How is Israel allowed such total impunity? Why is the international press not in uproar?
Alex Crawford@AlexCrawfordSky

Civil Defence crews were finally able to access the site where Leb journalist Amal Khalil was trapped under rubble but only hours later. They retrieved her body. Her newspaper Al Akbar has put out a video tribute. Lebanon’s Minister of Information condemned the incident describing the targeting of journalists as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and calling for international action.

The body of the Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil was found by rescuers after several hours of digging in the rubble after an Israeli strike. She is the fourth journalist to have been killed by Israeli forces in seven weeks. This is why the word ‘journacide’ is now being used.

Me last week outside the old Finsbury Park Rainbow — I loved that place. Saw great bands there in the late 70s incl Clash, Jam, Ramones, Buzzcocks, Joy Division. This Saturday we celebrate London’s Lost Music Venues. What were your favourites & why? And who did you see there?

Nigel Farage has said that the handgun ban in the UK is ridiculous. The ban was introduced after the tragedy of Dunblane. His comments are a disgrace and an insult to all those who lost their lives at Dunblane. The ban must never be reversed.

@pjm1kbw I know - I wasn’t expecting miracles but I did think they’d have a Plan for governing - they had 14 years to draft one. And the first thing they do - remove the winter fuel allowance!!

Just 1 year in and the current prime minister is hanging on for the next general election by his finger nails. Where is the vision? Where is the charisma? Where is the follow-me attitude? Frankly it’s all very dull and it opens the door wide for Farage 🤨 bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
