Mentioned on the pod, but the Panthers were 9th in EPA/play on targets to WRs lined up wide, and 30th vs WRs in the slot. (Partially a Mike Jackson Was Awesome stat)

@chasen850 *can’t be. I mistyped. Again, I know you’re angry but the context DOES matter. Knee soreness has nothing to do with a hyperextension occurring. It was a freak accident like Scourton.

@Jared_NFLDraft I agree it can be the staff. Glad we’re aligned here

From reports I’ve seen, the sore knee was a separate issue. Brazzell basically had a tear from hyperextending his knee, from what I can understand. It’s disappointing, and I get being frustrated/upset. But the simple blame can be the staff. Context matters.

Like I harped on yesterday: it’s football and injuries happen. It’s a part of the game, and no team is immune to a litany of them. It’s not the training staff’s fault (easy cope, but not correct). These things happen, even with the best staffs (I think CAR does have one of).

@mike_e_kaye Fair point with the injury. If he does return to that form, I can see the mismatches and him becoming a standout in a way. I still think they need to have a spacing guy and someone who can use their speed to win in space. Maybe that Legette w/ his explosiveness in YAC opps.

@Jared_NFLDraft Last year during camp he was running away from guys, not sure what happened last year with the ankle.

JT Sanders’ summer becomes a bit bigger for the #Panthers with Chris Brazzell out. Sanders, in theory, could free up the slot, particularly in the red zone in 11 personnel looks because he’s kind of a hybrid body type. He’s gotten off to a bit of a slow start but had a strong day yesterday. If Mitch Evans and Tommy Tremble are healthy for in-line work, I’d think Sanders would factor into the slot math with McMillan, Coker, Moore and maybe Reed, Metchie or Horn and Tremayne.

@mike_e_kaye Which is why Metchie may factor into the math at WR for roster cuts. I think he can be a reliable underneath separator if he comes more consistent down-to-down. My hang up is that I haven’t seen enough from Sanders to garner trust on him being a mismatch vs. Ni/LBs/SAFs.

@Jared_NFLDraft Sanders in slot with mismatches, Reed has some juice. This certainly won’t help spacing concepts.

Panthers have had the training camp from hell so far

Another season-ending surgery for the #Panthers. This time, it’s their rookie WR, who was expected to add a vertical element to the offense this year. My initial thought is that they need to find a consistent, reliable vertical threat unless Jimmy Horn shows that.

The #Panthers have signed wide receiver Gabriel Benyard (worked out yesterday) and cut UDFA rookie DT Parker Peterson to make room, the team announced. Benyard played college ball at Kennesaw State. He's listed as 5-10 and 185 pounds. He's an undrafted rookie.
