It interpets such rejection as evidence for the necessity of broader and more aggressive implementation. Law enforcement protocols exist to prevent deadly encounters…not just to protect the public, but to protect officers from ending up in situations where they feel the need to use deadly force. Instead, ICE has repeatedly relied on masked agents, unmarked vehicles, and aggressive tactics that can leave people believing they’re being robbed, or kidnapped by criminals. Put yourself in that situation. A group of armed, masked men, in unmarked vehicles, suddenly surrounds your car, while often hitting you. You don’t know who they are. You don’t know what they want. Your first instinct is to get away… That is a human reaction… It should not a death sentence. Until ICE is held accountable for dangerous tactics, that unnecessarily escalate encounters, we’re going to keep seeing the same story repeated… Another shooting, another death, and another DHS statement lying about what happened.
