Last night I was sworn in as the Area 2 Trustee for the Sacramento City Unified School Board. Shortly thereafter, I was elected as the Second Vice President of the Board.

SB 509 has unprecedented support from a diverse coalition of religious organizations, community groups, and law enforcement. Not a single vote has been cast against it in Committees or in the Assembly. Last night we honored our own Miwok Middle School’s Girls Cross Country team for winning the 2024 Middle School National Championships held in Louisville, KY. A proud moment for our district, city, county, and the great state of California! Congrats to our coaches and runners!

The Guru Granth Sahib Ji, holy scripture for Sikhs, begins with the Mool Mantar which starts Japji Sahib, written by Guru Nanak Dev ji. Today, we celebrate Guru Nanak Ji’s 555th #Gurpurab (birth celebration.) Founder of the Sikh faith. In this dark time, his universal teachings are more important than ever. Naam Japo (meditate), Kirat Karo (earn an honest living), and Vand Chako (share with those less fortunate.)

Last night, we, the Sacramento City Unified Board of Ed. passed a resolution recognizing the 1984 Sikh Genocide in India. Sacramento is home to over 40,000 Sikhs, many of whom are survivors or descendants of survivors. It was an honor to recognize @JakaraMovement for their work.

The majority of Americans are living pay check to pay check. Folks want to be seen and heard. Instead, they were lectured with doomsday scenarios. Here we are, doomsday scenario. Simply put, the Dem party has taken its base for granted for too long. Result? Trump.

This week I joined members of the Sikh community as they made their way through Merced as part of the Fearless for Justice March campaign.

I stood with our Sikh community today to educate people about the genocide that occurred and to ensure our American freedoms are protected - That includes our 1st Amendment right to speak freely, including criticizing authorities without threats or violence. #Sikh_Genocide_1984
