@dmd_feistytige @VFL @abcsport It's always subjective - my primary focuses are: Who has the ball? Where are they? What's the score? What’s the time? TV answers 3 of these questions, so I can focus mainly on Question 1 & drawing info from our analysts. Radio doesn't answer any of them, so I need to.

@JasonBennettTV @VFL @abcsport I always thought radio callers should be calling as if the entire listening audience was blind. Some don’t. Good work JB.

Such a joy to bring @VFL to the masses via @abcsport TV & radio around the country. We intentionally went with an old-school call (lots of score updates & field position references we don't normally provide on a TV call) to ensure our radio listeners stay well informed✊🏻

@lucasgarth It’s changed the nature of calling tight finishes. When clock is counting down on screen, you can’t ignore it as a factor & naturally focus on it. When clock is counting up, you focus more on just calling the action. I've done more of both than most & I know which is more fun!

@JasonBennettTV In venue getting tarred with this as many on Kayo in ground or radio commentators saying how long left Teams put up signs of 2, 1 min or 30 sec every quarter Very rare to have a match go down to the wire and not know much of what's going on

Countup clock has NEVER made an exciting finish less exciting. Countdown clock often does. Eg. 89 GF & 99 PF. Everyone at MCG thought Cats/Dons were still a chance right until siren sounded. TV viewers knew it was over with 10/20 secs left. TV should mirror in-venue experience.

@patcostello1 Only if they WANT to. Can't we make that choice for ourselves when we’re watching the TV?

@collinsadam ‘86 GF was one of the game’s true generational crossovers when arguably the greatest fwd of all-time kicked 6 on arguably greatest defender, Bruce Doull, who had kept Jason goalless a fortnight earlier. The vision of Bruce hobbling up the race after his final gm so powerful.

@JasonBennettTV indeed... that 1984 GF visit too, with fitzroy so close to getting him! v different world had he ended up with the roys. another point of difference, how relentless he was as a FF, before it was the norm. the goals made from nothing. all the little things. perfect player.

@finn_bradshaw @collinsadam Yes Finn, I believe goalposts have been extended over years from 9m to around 15m to help decision making by reducing the no.of kicks sailing above them. I know @mattricho0 adamantly believes it's made goalkicking harder because the gap between the taller posts appears smaller!

@JasonBennettTV @collinsadam One thing that strikes me watching highlights of Dunstall and Ablett (and others of that vintage) how often the ball sails through above goal post height … feels like that doesn’t happen as often now. If so why? Are goal posts taller? Change in coaching?

Aesop knew his footy. (But in Carlton's version of this game plan, it's the hare who goes into its shell after half time.) Last night, the hare managed to hang on in a photo finish after the tortoise tripped over its own feet a few times in the closing stages.

Carlton has only won seven second halves since the start of last season. Four of those seven were against bottom four teams from 2025 and one was St Kilda who finished 12th. What's the reason this keeps being such a big issue?

Went for a wardrobe fitting at @abcsport & suggested we could return to the classic old-school look worn by the two Hall of Famers that first inspired me to pursue sports broadcasting... #GrahamandtheColonel

You could imagine Dennis paying exactly the same tribute to Bruce. Everything Bruce says about Dennis here applies to Bruce himself. How fortunate we've been to have lived in an era where these two broadcasting titans enhanced our sporting moments for so long.

“Dennis was my ultimate teammate”: Friend and fellow commentator Bruce McAvaney had led tributes to Seven broadcasting legend Dennis Cometti after his shock death at the age of 76. Tributes: tinyurl.com/mvztcwss ‘He went in optimistically but came out misty optically.’
