I observed a 5th grade class recently and was blown away by the depth of their discussion—grappling with moral obligation, scarcity of resources, and what communities owe one another through A Long Walk to Water. Inspired, I decided to grab a copy to read over the break.

Congratulations, Mrs. Becca Barnes for being named our 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Barnes represents PHE so well. She’s the teacher who’s always smiling, always laughing, and always finding ways to bring joy to others.

Rutherford County Schools officially opened the 146,000-square-foot Poplar Hill Elementary School today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The district’s 52nd school features 37 classrooms and modern learning spaces to serve the growing community. Home of the Coyotes and led by Principal Dr. Jason Eaton, the school will welcome approximately 900 students when the 2025–26 school year begins in just a few days.
