Today, the House recognized Lt. Col. (Ret) Dick Tobiason and his decades of service to the veteran community in Oregon with the passage of HCR 202. It was an honor to rise in support of this resolution.

Veterans Day is a time for celebration, remembrance and gratitude. It was a privilege to join in the 22nd Annual Bend Veterans Day parade this morning to honor the commitment and sacrifice of our veterans. To my dad and every service member who has answered the call, thank you.

On #MemorialDay, we remember and honor those brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their legacy lives on each day through the freedoms we cherish.

Thank you @GovTinaKotek for your leadership and advocacy! We must take a holistic approach to address our state’s literacy crisis. Part of that approach needs to include ensuring our educators are equipped with literacy instruction strategies grounded in the “science of reading.”

I stand with the St Charles nurses who are holding an informational picket today in Bend. Our nurses are bargaining for a contract that helps recruit and retain nurses, so they can provide safe staffing. We deserve quality healthcare. Our nurses deserve the support to provide it.

The ability to read and write is fundamental to the learning process and our kids' abilities to thrive in school and life. If we are serious about closing opportunity gaps, we need to invest in early literacy. bendbulletin.com/opinion/editor…
