I enjoyed meeting carers at our Carers Centre on George Street this week, alongside Cabinet Member Cllr @YvetteHopley, which provides essential support for those caring for loved ones. Delivered by our partners, @Carers_first the centre runs a carers’ café every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10.30am to 12.30pm, alongside activities like art, crochet, cinema trips, wellbeing sessions and advice drop-ins. At the café, I spoke with Sandra and Cynthia, both mums of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, who told me this service is first class and the support they receive is a real lifeline.

Pleased to open the ‘Croydon through the Lens of Charles Harrison Price’ exhibition at the Clocktower this evening, capturing early 20th century Croydon - the streets, communities and character that shaped the borough we know today. My thanks to the Croydon Natural History & Scientific Society for over 150 years of preserving our heritage and bringing these exhibitions into libraries across Norbury, Purley and Central Croydon. As we continue to reshape our borough and invest in its future, understanding our past helps us build a stronger, more confident Croydon.

It was a privilege along with @GatlandMaria and @YvetteHopley to open a new children’s home in Croydon, delivered in partnership with St Christopher’s Fellowship. More children can now stay closer to home – near their schools, families and support networks – rather than being placed miles away. Our Children in Care Youth Ambassadors helped shape every part of this home, from the design to the name. Funded by the Department for Education, this is an important step in supporting young people with complex needs and helping them to thrive. @StChris1870

Croydon residents are still paying the price for the Labour's financial collapse of our council. We’ve pursued the evidence, referred the reports, and pushed for accountability. But the current law makes it too difficult to hold people in public office to account. That needs to change.

Great to visit Grangewood Park in Thornton Heath and meet the @GrangewoodPark doing fantastic work - from the edible garden to regular litter picks. Good to see the playground full of families, and pleased we have cleared the unsafe toilet block to make way for a new community growing space. I also visited the bowling club to discuss how the facility could be better used for bowling, whilst offering café and toilet facilities for the wider park to use. Before, during and after demolition ⬇️

Pollards Hill is getting a clean-up this week as our Blitz Squad heads in to tackle fly-tipping, jet wash streets and help local businesses remove graffiti. This is all part of my zero-tolerance approach to environmental crime and restoring pride in Croydon. Lots done. Lots more to do. Let’s keep Croydon on track.

🚗 LTN Refunds for Residents Following the recent court judgment on the LTNs, I have ended those schemes and we will not be appealing. The priority now is making sure residents can easily claim back any fines they paid. We will be contacting people where we hold email addresses, launching a simple online claim form, and providing a checker so residents can see if they are eligible for a refund. I was delighted to welcome the British High Commissioner to Jamaica, Her Excellency Alicia Herbert, to the Town Hall for a reception recognising the remarkable response from Croydon’s Jamaican community following Hurricane Melissa. Croydon is home to the largest Jamaican community in London, and it was inspiring to hear how volunteers and donors came together to support those affected. The effort was led by Dr Andrew Brown and the @CroydonBMEForum who also travelled to Jamaica and met with Her Excellency as part of the relief work, delivering an amazing £400,000 in supplies. The High Commissioner said the visit to Croydon was also an opportunity to strengthen links with Jamaica’s diaspora and discuss working more closely together. @AliciaH_1 @josephleeesq @richardchatterj

It was a pleasure to join residents across Croydon this week to mark Ramadan and come together for Iftar. I attended the Palace for Life Foundation’s annual Iftar at Selhurst Park, where more than 150 residents gathered to break the fast together. Last night I joined the Big Shared Iftar at Braithwaite Hall in the Town Hall, organised with Faiths Together in Croydon, Croydon Business Association, Lighthouse and the Dialogue Society. It was wonderful to see people from across our borough coming together during this important time. Ramadan Mubarak to everyone observing.

Good to see the next stage of the Westfield regeneration progressing in Croydon. The Croydon Project sets out a bold vision for transforming Centrale, Whitgift and Allders and bringing new homes, shops, leisure and public spaces to our town centre. Croydon is back on track. A brand new playground is on the way for Old Coulsdon. Investing in our parks and open spaces is part of restoring pride in our neighbourhoods and making Croydon a great place for families to live and grow up. Great to see the plans coming together - looking forward to seeing it completed very soon.

Crime should never be normal in Britain. Our Take Back Our Streets campaign will restore order, catch criminals, and back the police to do their job.
