@iainjwatson For a govt that is determined to minimise the reliance on importing talent from other nations, it seems content to have a future generation in the UK without the necessary skills to exploit new technologies. Talented teachers are leaving in droves & our children paying the price.

He says they want a deal that is 'fair to teachers and taxpayers' So it's by no means certain today's strike in England will be the last.

The teachers' union the NEU say they would accept a rise of 6.5pc if that's what the Pay Review body recommends. But would the govt accept that? Education Minister Rob Halfon tells @BBCr4today he hasnt seen the Review body report and the PM, Chancellor and Educ Sec will decide

Good to know what now counts as a government impact assessment.. Whether we rejoin Horizon or not.. Our scientists referred to as a “howling Remainer research community” and the constant pressure to please the Tory right rather than act in the country’s best interests. (Times)
