@athenaeumbc There’s something so unique about his style. Really no other like him.

Messing with genes has zero downside. We totally understand how they work. Oh that other 98%? Ignore it, it’s junk.

I learned this song a long time ago, but I’ve never been able to make it through the whole thing.

I post some version of this song every Memorial Day. Jason tells the story about Matthew Conley before he starts the song. It’s one of Isbell’s best and imo one of the best songs written this century. Dress Blues - Jason Isbell.

@JoshuaLisec I never had a problem with it but I think about this all the time.
I have duties.
If we’re out, I’m driving.
If we’re in, I’m changing diapers. Often cooking too.
Add in Scott’s reframe about it being poison and it’s done.
I never want to drink.

The only thing an old man can tell a young man is that it goes fast, real fast, and if you're not careful it's too late. Of course, the young man will never understand this truth.

@Willakel32 @sbaroncohen I don’t know if the increase in level 3 autistics can be explained away so easily. Partially, probably. But not fully.

@JasonRumley_ @sbaroncohen For your last question, diagnostic drift is a huge part.

25 years ago our group proposed and tested the prenatal sex steroid theory of autism. Today there is now a strong body of evidence in support of the idea. Simply put, elevated sex steroid hormones (like androgens [e.g. testosterone] and estrogens) interact with genetic predisposition to change fetal brain development and increase the likelihood of the child having more autistic traits, and/or an autism diagnosis. Delighted our new 'Perspective' paper on this has just been published, with wonderful collaborators worldwide. Alongside deeper understanding of the biology of autism we need way way better support services for autistic people and their families, so they can enjoy equal human rights

Very often, divorce doesn't mean "two homes" for kids.
It means none.
