Growth is more similar beteen ecological related species and adjesent locations. In the last publication of my phd we therefore argue that growth is a usefull indicator for enviromental conditions and ecological relatedness. int-res.com/abstracts/meps…

Plasticity in growth is closely links to the energy availability of individuals. In the new article from my PhD, we show that energy allocation schemes of individuals could play a major role in the evolution of plasticity in individual growth curves. doi.org/10.1007/s12080…

My paper about the ecology of growth curve plasticity is now officially mentioned as the outstanding paper in theoretical ecology (2023) on the webpage of @ESA_Theory. You can read what they had to say about the paper here: esa.org/theory/awards/…

@NPilakouta @FunEcology I studied the ecology and evolution of plasricity in growth curves, with a focus on harvested fish stocks. I would define plasticity as the extend to which environmental factors (like food availability and temperature) affect an induvidual trait or rate (like growth or size)

📢 Do you study phenotypic plasticity? 📢 Please send* us your answers for a Special Feature in @FunEcology: - Briefly describe the type of phenotypic plasticity you study in your system - How do you define phenotypic plasticity? And please RT! *Reply to this tweet, DM, or email

Today I presented an example of how poaching could affect the kin structure of African elephants at the @EvoDemo8 conference in Paris!

Straight into elephant demography at @EvoDemo8. @JasperCroll presenting data on how poaching disrupts family groups, with implications for mortality and fecundity (fertility for those of us who spend too much time thinking about humans)

The second paper of my thesis is published! In this paper I explore how a stochatic version of the von Bertalanffy growth equation can be used to estimate variation in individual growth and bodysize without repeated individual observations. dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3.9…
