May 10, 1940. Today 83 years ago. Here is a little thread. This year I am thinking of Ben Swagerman. He was a observer/commander on a Dutch T.V Bomber. On the 10th of May 1940 he and his crew fought against the German invaders in his already obsolete bomber.

This is Herrlingen. The site of GFM Rommel's grave, about whom I once wrote a biography. Good to visit the peaceful grounds of the local church at Eastertide, & ponder the past. Lucie's grave in front, with the AfrikaKorps also remembered.

@SeaSpitfires Vlissingen is our equivalent of Chatham. Bit Rundown but with great history.

Probably as accurate as I can get it. I know some of the streets of Vlissingen that 4 Commando went down on the 1st November 1944, but others are less clear. Still, there's enough here to tell the story.

Well, after 8,000 km and five weeks, here I am back at the Hook of Holland. Wonderful road trip, one of my most enjoyable. Highlights? Driving across the snowy St Julier Pass and also visiting glorious #Salzburg. Thanks for your company.

In der Nähe von Greifenhagen in Pommern wurden die Überreste von fünf deutschen Fallschirmjägern aus dem Jahr 1945 entdeckt. Bei den Überresten wurden Erkennungsmarken gefunden, die dabei helfen könnten, die Identität der Gefallenen festzustellen und der Familie Bescheid geben.

Stunning photo I found yesterday from the Aarhus Raid, the Mosquito bombing raid in Denmark on 31 October 1944. Bombs are visible falling onto Aarhus University dormitories used by the Gestapo for their HQ.

Chuck Norris didn't join the Marine Corps...the Marine Corps applied to him. Heaven’s streets have always been guarded by Marines. Today, Chuck Norris reported for duty. We mourn the passing of Chuck Norris, a @usairforce veteran, who also became an honorary Marine in 2007 when awarded the title by then Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James T. Conway. Chuck Norris is one of just over 100 individuals to be awarded the title of Honorary Marine in the entire 250-year history of the Corps.
