NeurIPS Conference
NeurIPS Conference@NeurIPSConf·
Today, the NeurIPS Foundation is proud to announce a $500,000 donation to OpenReview supporting the infrastructure that makes modern ML research possible. OpenReview has been our trusted partner for years, enabling rigorous peer review at the scale and pace our field demands. This donation helps ensure they have the resources to strengthen their systems and continue evolving to meet our community's needs. The tools that enable rapid, rigorous scientific exchange aren't peripheral to our work—they're fundamental. This donation reflects our commitment to the infrastructure that makes ML research possible. OpenReview operates on a shoestring. They shouldn't have to. #NoMoreShoestrings #NeurIPS blog.neurips.cc/2025/12/15/sup…

@pfau I might be wrong, but my intuition is that “hardcore numerical computing people” usually work with a fixed number of dimensions, and their main variable is the level of precision. And that feels somehow different from deep learning. (I should say ML)

Sorry this bf16 vs fp16 discourse is so funny to me. For serious scientific applications I've never even been able to get TF32 to work and do everything in fp32. Meanwhile hardcore numerical computing people are shocked I don't use fp64.

I crossed an interesting threshold yesterday, which I think many other mathematicians have been crossing recently as well. In the middle of trying to prove a result, I identified a statement that looked true and that would, if true, be useful to me. 1/3

Nice feature from @openreviewnet. You can track publication versions across different venues (e.g., arXiv, ICLR, ACL)!

When a single telescope is projected to stream ~62 exabytes of data every year, we need better compression. Learned compression is one answer--check out our new project page here:
Rithwik Sudharsan@aRithmetix

Made a pretty website for our ICLR 2025 work AstroCompress: neural compression for space telescopes + 320 GB of ML-ready astro image data. rithwiksud.github.io/astrocompress-… Has links to paper, data, code, Jupyter notebook, reviews, & ICLR video presentation.
