When you meet a Port Harcourt person that was born in the 80's & 90's, dem dey avoid trouble at all cost. It is because we lived through periods of intense violence. From the streets, to campuses, deep into the dark creeks, & mangroves. Life in Rivers State was dangerous. You fit wake up for house commot, make u no come back again, either u kpai by stray bullet or men fall you. I remember one day I go see my class mate for Marine base, we played Play station until it was late, so I decided to spend the night there (wrongest decision I ever made). At around 11:15 p.m, approximately fifty well armed members of Asari’s NDPVF arrived by speedboats at Marine Base, a waterfront area in Port Harcourt where several members of Ateke Tom’s NDV resided. At about 11.30 p.m, they started chanting Asawana, we started hearing gunshots coming from the River and from the road. The gunshots lasted until 5a.m. I didn’t know what was happening, there were gunshots everywhere. If you peep through the window it was like stars, so we just lay flat in the house and prayed. That was all we could do. The security forces didn’t arrive at the scene until 6a.m. and appeared unable to contain the violence or match the firepower of the NDPVF. The police ran away leaving residents defenseless. The fighting led to the deaths of over 13persons, as well as the destruction of several stores and cars. That was the last time I ever stepped my foot in Marine base. This event happened over 20years ago, till today if you invite me to Marine base or Abuloma for business, you can never see me there. Thank God for the uneasy calm we are experiencing now in Port Harcourt.

@obaofph01 We used to live at the boundary between Amadi and Fimie. Our house was close to water side, every now and then you'll see bush boy's going to and fro with only pants and jazz tied all over. As a young boy them no born you well to wear red, black or even plain white polo.

The fierce battle between Asari dokubo and Ateke Tom in early 2000 to 2006 was a terrible time in Rivers State. At a time, a writer with Vanguard Newspaper (late George Onah) described Port Harcourt as "a blood soaked city". The situation was so bad that Late Edwin Clark, onetime minister of information and an elder statesman, called on the Yar’Adua government to immediately declare a state of emergency in Rivers. In September 2004, At least 100 people were killed and more than 6,000 displaced from their homes in Port Harcourt as a result of gang violence. Following the attacks by both groups in Port Harcourt, at the end of August 2004, Rivers Governor Peter Odili requested the intervention of the federal government. On the 4th of September 2004, President Obasanjo approved Operation Flush Out, a joint operation comprising the Nigerian army, navy, airforce and police. According to the then army public relations officer, Captain Onyema Kanu, the operation’s objective was, “to cleanse the state of illegal weapons. Around the same time, the governor’s chief of staff, initiated a behind-the-scenes effort to forge a peace agreement among several of the “cult” groups affiliated with Asari’s NDPVF and Ateke Tom’s NDV in 2003. I will drop the full gist here soon.

Soboma George He was gentle in appearance that if you have not encountered him or heard of him you might easily take him for granted. Soboma George, who hailed from Buguma community in the Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, then was second-in-command to Ateke Tom's Icelander Confraternit. In June 2005, Soboma George and some of his gang members were arrested and taken to Port Harcourt Prisons, for allegedly shooting & killing Minabo Fiberesima. The late Fiberesima was a staunch member of Dokubo-Asari’s Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF) In same June, 2005, while Soboma and others were in prisons, Golden Kalio, the third-in-command, (Soboma’s junior officer) in the Ateke’s cult hierarchy had driven in his brand new mercedez E-Class Saloon car, to go to court to testify against Soboma and co, for their roles in the murder of Minabo Fiberesima. Soboma from his prison cell ordered the murder of Kalio. Kalio was shot several times in the chest by Soboma’s boys. He died instantly. Eight days after the slaughtering of Kalio, a hit squad from the Icelander struck, to avenge the death of its commander. Senibo George, Soboma younger brother was abducted and butchered by Icelander’s henchmen; his shattered flesh and bones squeezed and parked in a sack bag and dumped at I.B Johnson, a popular street in Port Harcourt. On hearing about his brothers demise, Soboma George plotted with Farah Ipallibo Dagogo for a rescue operation. In late 2005, Farah Dagogo broke into Port Harcourt prison with his men, and freed Soboma George and other inmates. The late Soboma George stayed in Owerri, Imo State capital for quite sometime before returning to Rivers State. In August 2009, Soboma George accepted an amnesty offer made by the Nigerian government, under President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. On Tuesday, August 24, 2010, Soboma George, who should be in his early 30s, was was gunned down on a bloody August evening on Nembe Street in the Borokiri suburb of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The incident occurred shortly after Soboma, former warlord and leader of an arm of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), and other agitators in the Niger Delta region accepted the offer of amnesty by then President Umar Yar’Adua in 2009. Ironically, he was killed after watching a football match he organised as part of his philanthropic projects in the neighbourhood. He was leaving the venue of one of the matches in his football tourney when shooting broke out. He was killed with two others, including a groundnut hawker, Joy John Ejims.

As long as Saka, Eze and Timber are all back I’m not overly concerned for the City game No O’Reilly goal threat and an actual creative midfielder for us. Who Arteta starts at CF will be telling City have momentum but we can nullify a lot of their threat esp without O’Reilly

@Nomnso_Okeke Our players rarely look up to the box when trying to make those crosses They mostly hit and hope The Cala own at sporting was a good example had he squared it like Arnold did far post it would have been a tap in for Gyok but he didn’t look and made a weak cut back

When I say Saka just fires crosses in without looking, they tell me “well, someone should be there so he’s right for assuming someone IS there”. Saka isn’t anywhere near as good a passer as Trent, who looks up before passing. Why can’t Saka do the same? It’s just hilarious
Billy Carpenter@billycarpy

Trent is the only Trent alive (big advantage, imo), but Arsenal could learn to steal a glance before firing these in. Other than White, they're usually knocked in blind. We should be better at low crosses, and elite at cutbacks to the penalty spot.
