Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2’s final update, launching on June 9, will be more than just the end of new content. The game’s lead developer said the update includes story content and a proper farewell for players, stating, “Yes, there’s story, yes, we get to say goodbye.” The update, called Monument of Triumph, was announced on May 21 as the last new live-service release for Destiny 2 after 12 years of support. After that, the game will move into maintenance mode but remain fully playable.

Amazon has confirmed that future James Bond video games will be handled by Amazon Games and MGM. Amazon Gaming General Manager Jeff Gattis explained that the upcoming game 007 First Light is a unique case because the deal was signed before Amazon gained control of the James Bond franchise through MGM. Gattis said, “The future games, for sure, will be done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios.” This means that while 007 First Light is being developed and published by IO Interactive, future Bond games will likely be overseen directly by Amazon and MGM. It remains unclear whether IO Interactive will stay involved with the franchise after 007 First Light.

Toei Animation, the studio behind One Piece, is calling for stronger action against anime piracy and wants more support from the Japanese government to protect anime rights worldwide. The company says piracy remains a major problem as anime grows more popular internationally. Reports show anime now accounts for about one-third of Japan’s total overseas content revenue, making it one of the country’s most valuable entertainment exports. Toei believes better copyright protection is needed so studios, creators, and production teams can earn revenue from their work. The company is urging the Japanese government to collaborate more closely with international partners to combat illegal anime streaming and distribution.

Huge win for gamers and consumer rights! The California State Assembly just passed AB 1921, the Protect Our Games Act. It passed on the floor by a vote of 43 to 16. The bill would force video game companies to give players a heads-up before they shut down the servers for a game. It would also make them provide a way for people to keep playing afterward, like adding offline mode or letting community servers take over. Quick recap of what the bill does: >60-day advance notice before any server shutdown or major service change that would make a game unplayable in its “ordinary use.” >Companies must then provide a workable solution so players can keep playing, usually an offline mode/patch, community server support, or (in some cases) a full refund. >Applies to digital games first sold or substantially re-released in California after January 1, 2027. >Does not affect subscription games, free-to-play titles, or games that are already permanently offline/single-player. >Enforceable by the Attorney General or district attorneys. In short: If you buy a game, you should still be able to play it even after the company moves on. No more “purchase” turning into a rental that expires when the servers die.

@Pirat_Nation I’ll continue to reserve judgement. But at this point, it sounds like a different game. Might have to judge it for what it is rather than compare it to what it was.

A new report about Halo: Campaign Evolved claims the remake relies heavily on outsourced development and includes major gameplay and mission changes. According to Halo insider Rebs Gaming, external studio Abstraction handled a large amount of the technical and level-design work. Some sources described the project as “not really an in-studio project” for Halo Studios. Reported changes include: • A major redesign of “The Library” to reduce repetitive gameplay. • Additional revisions to repetitive sections across other missions. • Modernized mechanics like sprinting and expanded traversal. • A “campaign remix” system featuring skull modifiers and alternate gameplay rules. • A reported third-person gameplay modifier. • Brutes appearing in missions where they were not present in the original Halo: Combat Evolved. • Nine extra weapons added to the sandbox, including the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, SMG, Spiker, and Sentinel Beam. @570WKBlacklabel I would normally point to this being an Arcade game and probably tuning, but this is ridiculous. I get you can tune them to be crazy but there is still be a limit. A limit the AI should, but clearly doesn’t, have to adhere too. I can only suspend disbelief so much.

@zkurishi You need to have a conversation with Sony. They own Crunchyroll and are responsible for the localization issue and more when it comes to the presentation of anime outside of Japan. The other medias are more complicated, but translators and their companies are generally the issue.

I think Japanese companies should be more careful about localization issues for anime, manga, games, and other media. They need to ensure that the appeal of Japanese content is properly conveyed to the world, and that the platforms that guarantee this are also important.
