The players klinsman found who made any sort of impact were not meh Bundesliga players. And some of them would come to USA and absolutely wilt in any big game or temperature over 75.

There was a reason Klinsmann-era USMNT went spelunking for players among the Children of Ramstein. Even a meh Bundesliga academy was better player development for a potential elite player than college soccer to MLS.

@Texiancurtis Well I wouldn't go that far. As much as I love it, college soccer is a terrible vessel to becoming a full-time fan of the sport (only plays three months per year, rosters churn constantly, quality is... scattershot). But it's great as a localized in-person experience

Will it ever be a major breeding ground for national teamers? No. But if you're a prospective fan who came away from this World Cup interested in the sport and want a localized, tight-knit experience, your local college campus may be a better place to start looking than you think
