An overlooked part of the whole Gus thing is that the Marlins don't want anyone to be a full time DH. They value roster/lineup flexibility and positional versatility above pretty much anything. I very much doubt they want anyone clogging DH everyday unless they're Yordan Alvarez.

After Sunday's debacle, Marlins plan to evaluate Chris Paddack from a health standpoint after a drop in velocity yesterday, per source. A few things are on the table, including possible IL stint based on whether a health issue emerges. Snelling/Garrett are the top Triple A options if he misses a start or starts. McCullough has said he will start Friday (but only if healthy, obviously).

Ramirez was getting on base more, but his defense hasn't improved much; his doubles and home runs are way down; his batting average is actually down from '24 (an archaic stat, I know) and he frustrated the team with a few base-running errors. They can't afford to continue being this bad defensively at catcher; Mack should fix that.

With Joe Mack, the Marlins are getting three key intangibles: - elite defense - terrific plate discipline (11.4% BB since 2025) - plus-power The difference between him and Agustín Ramírez defensively will be night and day.

Double wow. It’s been a very tough go for Ramirez in his sophomore season. The team hopes he can straighten things out down in Jax on both sides. They’re going to need him this season. Meanwhile,Miami’s defense behind the dish immediately becomes one of the best in baseball.
