The missed shot teaches you more than the keeper ever will. Keep going. Every blurry frame, every wrong setting, every bird that flew before you pressed the shutter, that's not failure. That's your education. The photographers who quit never find out how close they were.

All over the Maldives, they sell a Tiger Shark Teeth as a pendant that people love to wear around their necks. Most of these are found by divers, but in some parts of the world Sharks are killed, and their teeth make it to souvenir shops while their fins make it to bowls.

Tiger shark teeth make for a striking story because they are built like nature’s multi-tool: broad, serrated, and curved to slice through tough prey like turtles, fish, and even bone. Unlike humans, sharks keep replacing teeth throughout life.

It's one thing to see a Shark swim by while you are underwater, but an entirely different thing when it looks at you and swims towards you. Imagine a tiger head-on in a jungle? The only difference here is that you aren't in a vehicle. #ToeholdPhotoTravel #UnderwaterPhotography

But recently, I travelled to Fuvamullah to observe and photograph the legendary Tiger Shark. I was inches away from it on many occasions. While I'll post more pictures of them up close in the coming days, I would like to show these pictures of them in the blue.

After indulging in wildlife photography for over 20 years, I have learnt one thing. While some animals are widespread and present in many parts of the world, there are usually one or two places where their populations are better than the rest.

Some animals seem great, some animals are named "Great" because of their size. I surely think the Great Hornbill deserves to belong to the former category as much as the physical reasons for it's name. Have you had the pleasure of watching this legend? #ToeholdPhotoTravel

In 2011, I travelled to Kamchatka for the first time. It was a clearly an unknown destination for me and many. After recommendations from a good friend who had been there I decided to explore it and what a great decision it has been for both me personally and for Toehold

Two Tanagers in two different countries with almost the same attire and almost the same name but with a subtle difference. Crimson-colored Tanager in #Costarica and Crimson-backed Tanager in #Colombia. We have two lovely phototours to both these destinations in Nov and Dec.

The only other hummingbird larger than the Great Sapphirewing you see in this picture is the Giant Hummingbird and the Topaz. Sapphirewings are gorgeous to see when they are in flight as that's when you actually see the sapphire under the wing. #ToeholdPhotoTravel

Peru is amazing with some remarkable #Hummingbirds. One such bird is the Wire-crested Thorntail. Now It resides in a small pocket of forests around the foothills of the andes in countries like Colombia, #Peru and Ecuador. I saw this bird only in one small area during the trip.
