@ProFootballTalk @FOS George Gervin last played in the NBA in 1986. Literally forty years have passed since then and Caleb Williams was born in 2001. Don't know how long you can keep a nickname, but four decades seems long enough especially when the other athlete plays in a different sport.

@thebadstats There's also that he's a fraud who crumbled when his wife got 'sick.' Instead of being a stalwart source of support, he pill popped so much that he ended up in a coma in Russia. Nothing says you're a responsible man like having another person's health crisis make you fall apart.

@OtitoNosike When his wife was diagnosed with a serious illness (that later just resolved miraculously...) he spiralled out of control from his benzo addiction. So in the moment when he was needed the most, he crashed out. This from the guru of getting your shit together. He's a fraud.

I have never understood, and still do not understand, why people loathe Jordan Peterson. For me, he is the most compelling philosopher of the 21st century. His ideas have reshaped how the modern man, particularly in the West, sees himself. And this is not even limited to the West. Any sensible young man can recognize the value in his thinking; lessons that, if practiced as he presents them, have the power to turn one’s life around.

@minakimes @Nate_Tice @DannyBKelly So if he slides to 10, should the Bengals take him? Your pod with Brett Kollmann you had them choosing between Caleb Downs and a guard, but why not Love if you want take that offence to an absurd level? If you're not going defence, as they should, why not the top offensive guy?

One of the points made in favor of drafting Jeremiyah Love early is that it would help (insert young QB). But how much does a star RB actually help vs a good OL or great WR? Discussed on the pod with @nate_tice and @dannybkelly

@JoshuaLWatson Don't think he recognizes how repugnant "I wouldn't be in that situation" when trying to dodge the question about how he'd behave in Nazi Germany. Apparently those that were there did something wrong or didn't have the keen wisdom that Peterson has to avoid such dilemmas.

@JamesSurowiecki There are more than a few members of this administration that more accurately fit Rubio's description of the Iranian regime than that regime.

This is the single most delusional thing people keep saying about Iran. The regime has stayed in power for almost 50 years while being oppressive troublemakers that the entire West would like to see disappear, and it's done so because they've deliberately avoided doing anything to invite massive destruction (like Saddam invading Kuwait). But we're supposed to believe that they're suicidal maniacs who have somehow never come close to committing suicide in 50 years.

Rubio: This is a regime led by people who believe it is their calling and their purpose in life to usher in the end of the world.

@ProFootballTalk Performative antics all around. From the florida AG, and the NFL whose Rooney rule is a performative ritual rather than an actual effective policy to increase opportunities for minority coaches and GMs.

@TFG_Football Or understand why Gronk was so special. He wasn't just a receiving threat, he was also an all pro level blocker. Just a nightmare for defences regardless of the play call. Also that's why he's the better TE versus Travis Kelce.

@TomPelissero You're highly paid part-time employees who nobody pays to watch. You continuously get people angry because when you screw up you never get punished for said screw ups. NFL doesn't make money because of you, if anything you cost them money because you inspire doubt in the product.

Statement from NFL Referees Association executive director Scott Green: “Apparently ‘League sources’ are continuing to put out false and misleading information instead of wanting to meet at the negotiating table. The bottom line is our officials work for the wealthiest sports league in America, with profits that far exceed any of the others. That’s normally a point of pride for the NFL. However, our officials are substantially under-compensated when compared to baseball and basketball umpires and referees. Our officials also aren't provided the health care benefits that those at 345 Park Avenue have. “As far as performance pay, we had ‘high performing officials’ who worked this year’s Championship games and the Super Bowl who were paid less for those games than what they were paid for a regular season game. That certainly isn't rewarding performance, as the NFL claims is their goal.”
Tom Pelissero@TomPelissero

The NFL has offered its game officials a six-year labor deal with a 6.45% annual growth rate in compensation, while the NFLRA is insisting on 10% plus $2.5 million for marketing fees the league regards as worthless, sources say. The union also continues to resist changes the NFL is insisting upon, including shortening the “dark period” after the Super Bowl, deploying underperforming officials to spring leagues for extra reps and ending a seniority-based system for playoff assignments. “We want to pay for performance,” source said.

@FB_FilmAnalysis It would be within the rules of the game for Garrett to bull rush that average person 20 times* in a row. No flags thrown. Pitcher head hunts or hits the batter, different story. *Well, he could do that, but by the fourth or fifth attempt that person would be a corpse.

@ProFootballTalk There's a not so fine line between confidence and delusion. In one season Ty Simpson took over a 4 loss team that lost a close bowl game, and changed it into a 4 loss team that got absolutely embarrassed in the playoffs.

@billbarnwell @acosta32_jp What’s Acosta talking about the Steelers turning over the roster? The only true greybeards are Watt and Heyward. The rest of the roster is in the mid-20s plus 13 ‘26 draft picks. The youth movement is already here.

@ProFootballTalk Most of the time Jerrah waiting to extend his players is a mistake that costs them money. In this case it's the right thing to do. Pickens is talented without a doubt, but one season of consistently excellent play doesn't erase the erratic behaviour of previous years.

The Vikings have used three or more QBs twice in Kevin O'Connell's four seasons, so the plan was to have depth entering 2026. They get it with the return of Carson Wentz, who is entering his 11th NFL season.
Tom Pelissero@TomPelissero

Veteran QB Carson Wentz is re-signing with the Vikings, sources tell The Insiders. So Minnesota’s QB room now features three former top-10 picks: Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy and Wentz, who played well last season before a shoulder injury.

@billbarnwell Bengals not among the 20? If this was just assessing playoff teams from last year I'd get it, but having six additional slots and still not having them there seems a curious choice, especially since they at least tried to address defensive deficiencies in free agency.
