Jordan Pickford left Sunderland 9 years ago to join Everton thinking he was escaping mediocrity. Since then Sunderland have had back to back relegations, rebuilt the club, got promoted back to the Championship, won the play-offs to get back to the Premier League and qualified for Europe at the first attempt. Everton have spent most of that time flirting with relegation, getting points deductions and acting like finishing 14th is a successful season. He genuinely would’ve had a more successful career if he’d just stayed at Sunderland. That is peak Everton.

As at today, the contribution of crude oil and gas to Nigeria’s real GDP is less than 7%. Economy fully diversified.

One of the darkest details in Game of Thrones is that every Baratheon brother represents a different kind of failed king. Robert had charisma but no discipline. Stannis had discipline but no love. Renly had love but no legitimacy. And together they basically explain why House Baratheon collapsed so fast after Robert died. Robert won the throne but never truly ruled it. Stannis believed he deserved the crown but inspired fear more than loyalty. Renly inspired loyalty easily but built his claim almost entirely on popularity. What makes it tragic is that if you combined all three brothers into one person, you probably get the perfect king. Instead Westeros got three incomplete versions of one 💔

You cannot think freely in someone else’s language. Every nation that industrialized fast Japan, China, South Korea taught science, law, and governance in its own language. Africa still graduates engineers who can’t explain their work to their own grandmothers.

8 G/A in 26 league games for Patrick Dorgu in a season where he basically played in 5 different positions. I really have high hopes for him. I don’t know if he’ll become world class but he gives me that Ji Sung Park feeling. No matter where you put him, you can always rely on him.

Pep Guardiola started his rebuild at Manchester City in 2016 with an injured İlkay Gundogan, Nolito, Claudio Bravo, Zinchenko and Leroy Sane. Jurgen Klopp first full summer signings were Sadio Mane, Wijnaldum, Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Loris Karius. Most of these signings were questioned and none were world class or fancy names as at that time but one thing they all had in common is they trusted the project, wanted to come and were ready to put in the work. The point is simple: Great projects are not built on fan excitement. They are built on profiles, balance, system fit, large squad and patience. Sometimes the first signing is not the one fans dream about. Sometimes it is the player the manager believes fits the structure he wants to build. Ederson is looking increasingly likely to be our first summer signing and some fans are getting worked up because he is not the flashy or fashionable name they expected. Instead of reacting negatively, maybe people should appreciate how smooth, calm and efficient the negotiations have been so far. Good windows are built on smart profiles, quick execution and players that actually fit the manager’s system, not just big names for excitement. After the signings of Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko and Lammens last summer, I think the fans should give the recruitment team the benefit of the doubt. They went 4/4 with their signings last summer, so they have at least earned a level of trust and patience from the fanbase. Not every deal will be the biggest name on the market, but good recruitment is about identifying the right profiles that fit the project and improve the team.

The reversal of the sale of those refineries by the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua administration (may Allah bless his soul) remains one of the most damaging economic decisions taken by any Nigerian government since 1999. It cost the country billions of dollars in personnel expenses, Turnaround Maintenance (TAM), and lost productivity. It crippled growth across the oil and gas sector, scared away serious investors, and prolonged the deeply corrupt subsidy regime that drained public finances for years. Nigeria paid heavily for preserving inefficient state control over assets that should have been modernized, privatized, and made productive long ago.
Premium Times@PremiumTimesng

In 2007, the former President Olusegun Obasanjo administration approved the sale of the Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries to a consortium linked to Dangote and Otedola. However, the succeeding administration later reversed the transaction following criticism from labour unions and civil society groups. snip.ng/GFDMl

@NWali_X It was a populist opinion spearheaded by the selfish but shortsighted labour Unions and the saboteurs in the refinery who are being paid for doing nothing. Same occurred in Ajaokuta SC where late Buhari had to settle out of court for $500m

@Hosang You can’t compare league to league. For example, Wirtz in Bundesliga vs Wirtz in Premier league will give a completely different reading.
