On the 80th anniversary of her death, #MI6 remembers Noor Inayat Khan, the first female wireless operator sent into occupied France by the UK’s Special Operations Executive. Noor was courage personified, and we shall always be in awe of her extraordinary service and bravery. #SOE

“This is your finest hour.” As we mark 80 years since VE Day, we remember the remarkable people of Bletchley Park whose secret work helped secure victory. This message from MI6 chief Stewart Menzies, saved by WAAF Jean Hunter and decorated with stamps from her office, is a powerful reminder of their pride, purpose, and legacy. The letter reads: "On this ever memorable day, I desire that all who are doing duty in this organisation should be made aware of my unbounded admiration in the way in which they have carried out their allotted tasks. Such have been the difficulties, such has been the endeavour, and such have been the constant triumphs that one senses that words of gratitude from one individual are perhaps out of place. The personal knowledge of the contributions made towards winning the War is surely the real measure of the thanks which so rightly belong to one and all in a great an inspired organisation which I have the privilege to direct.
