What is the best advice you have ever received? I will start. My first record producer and mentor, Buddy King, told me early on, “On the way to where you think you want to go enjoy the journey because there’s no guarantee that once you get there, you will be happy.“

Did you know that in July of 1913 the largest amusement park on the US West Coast opened on the corner of Abbott and Voltaire streets in Ocean Beach, San Diego? Opening day saw 22,000 guests pass through the gates pictured below. Sadly, the park only lasted two seasons due to a massive decline in attendance from the opening of the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park in 1915 and a hundred year flood that destroyed most of the rides in January of 1916. The menagerie was rented to the Exposition and eventually became the foundation upon which the world famous San Diego Zoo was built, and the Blue Streak Racer, the largest roller coaster on the West Coast, was sold to the Santa Monica Pier. I used all of this as background for my Jake Moriarity novel, "Finding Wonderland." If you are into the LA recording scene and abandoned amusement parks, this is a novel for you. 99 cents in the Kindle store.

@native_ame_soul We had some Bison around here on farms. This herd is no longer in these pastures. Loved seeing them & when I found them to be gone it made me very sad. It still does.

@edwereddie 1956 Bel Air, really need a better look at the rear end. The 1956 was developing fins, which the 1957 model had. The fin craze lasted until 1962, with the 1963 & 1964 Bel Airs and Impalas were squared off. The body lines were again beginning to be more rounded 1965-1968.

@theygonnalose @lippyent The horse passed about the same time that Jimmy Stewarts son was killed in action. Henry Fonda made a painting of Pie for Stewart. Tom Mix lived about an hour from here.

Jimmy Stewart (about Pie): “The horse was amazing. I rode him for 22 years. I never was able to buy him because he was owned by a little girl by the name of Stevie Myers, who is the daughter of an old wrangler who used to wrangle horses for Tom Mix and W.S. Hart. He retired and he gave this horse to her. He was a sort of a maverick. He hurt a couple of people. I saw him when I started making Westerns. Audie Murphy rode him a couple of times. He nearly killed Glen Ford, ran right into a tree… But I liked this darned little horse. He was a little bit small, a little quarter horse and Arabian. I got to know him like a friend. I actually believed that he understood about making pictures. I ran at a full gallop, straight towards the camera, pulled him up and then did a lot of dialogue and he stood absolutely still. He never moved. He knew when the camera would start rolling and when they did the slates. He knew that because his ears came up.”

Sometimes having a big heart can make you sad because you want people to care as much as you do and sometimes they don’t. Or maybe it’s just that they don’t know how to let the world touch them anymore so they just put up walls, shut everything out and give up. The biggest tragedy in our world is when people give up. Please don’t do that. The world needs your light! 🫶🏻#StarfishClub
