Seb Coe IOC Countdown # 4! Jim Spivey “Seb is in this to win.  Sounds too simple, doesn’t it? And then if he wins, he is in it for everyone to win.   Like after that workout in 1988 he said to me as I was so tired “Do you get it Jim?  It’s all about the minutes of activity.  Not running fast.  Keeping the pulse above 140 for over an hour.  Do you get it?”    In 1988 he was getting better in preparation for the Olympic Games (which neither of us qualified for ) but he wanted everyone there among us to get better and believe in the process.  It’s funny enough- he ran 1:43 for the 800 the same day I ran 3:31.01 for the 1500 in Koblenz West Germany on August 31 when both of us knew we would not be competing in Seoul.  I bet his time was in the top 5 that year(?) and my time was 2nd fastest only to Steve Cram.
