@arttavana I've been here 20 years and from the time I moved here people were saying "downtown is on the verge of a comeback". Every person I know who opened a bar or restaurant has since closed it. Every person who moved into the new lofts in 2007 has moved out. It's a shame.

L.A. is worth fighting for; unfortunately, downtown L.A. is not. Downtown L.A. is a failed experiment to make L.A. more like New York, which resulted in a collapsed wasteland that draws more flies than tourists.

Look, not to constantly be the "this is all click bait fear mongering" guy but I looked this writer up. He has three total writing credits: a (genuinely cool sounding) web series released by AMC, the short film said series was based on, and one indie feature. All cool things, but it's weird to write an entire THR article as if this was a working, career writer the town suddenly turned their back on. I'm sure he's a good guy and talented, but he feels much more like a 30 year indie exec to me. 99% of his credits are EP credits from random productions (the kind they give you for working at a company that produced or financed the film). I know the last six years have been insane and difficult, but we're about to have the best box office year in a long time, there are the most shoots in LA lined up since 2019. Specs are selling better than they have in a LONG time. I have more friends than ever getting killer auditions, making their own stuff, and selling projects. That's anecdotal for sure, but so is this article. Choose your mindset wisely.

@jeannevb For 20 years, I’ve been very happy to simply be a writer, and not distract my creative self with the hours away from writing that the business of the business would take from me. It has meant that I’ve had less financial success, but Ive lived the creative life I wanna live.

@jeannevb The big winning lottery ticket has different odds. If you write and sell a successful studio piece, you know what to expect financially. Independents that succeed can still pay off big, but you’re without union support when it comes to collecting that money forever.

@KeruboSk The moment you realize you no longer have to live up to your perceived expectations that they had of you. There’s no “them” to accidentally embarrass anymore. So you stop considering their feelings when you make big life choices.

What’s the grief milestone nobody prepares you for? Not the funeral. Not the first year. The weird specific one nobody talks about.

Feeling not-fat finally. At 200 pounds, I’m not yet where I want to be, physically, but four months of giving fewer fucks might actually be working for my self esteem. And I like showing off the tattoos. Maybe I need more of those. Might delete later.

@JaclynPMoore It’s very comforting, but for me, sitting down in the shower is usually a sign that I’ve fallen into a spell of depression and need a medication adjustment. Self medication through white noise water therapy, I guess.

@JaclynPMoore Politician or not, consenting adults participating in their own sex life is no one’s business, especially not ours. Out of all of the things we should be concerned about these people running the country, we have such a gross knee-jerk reaction to people just trying to be happy.

@LukeBarnett I borrowed a mountain bike when I was 39 and had gotten into really great shape, and thought I was 16 and broke ribs trying to do 16 year old tricks. Know what kind of temperament you have before you buy the race car is all I’m saying.

Question for once cool dads. Kid learning to ride a bike, so I wanna get one. Do I go nice mountain bike with maybe hybrid tires that could also be used for exorcise or fun little BMX that just feels fun for parks, neighborhood rides, rode trips, etc?

Anyone know what happens if one of our allies decides they don’t want WW3 and tries to stop this madness?
