@NHLJackManning I would have been good with that outcome, but maybe I am on an island with that opinion. There are always other players, but you can’t escape bad contracts easily.

@Jeff_Ferdinand If he still ends up in Minny, then Vegas lacks the player that turned their PP around and a legit top-4 D. Hanifin is then in Tampa and Hertl is unavailable because the Sharks want him with Celebrini.

I keep seeing this nonsense that #VegasBorn 'wasted' assets trading for guys who 'would have signed here anyway.' Hanifin pushed for a trade to Tampa before Vegas acquired him. Andersson was almost a Bruin before Vegas grabbed him. Marner would've had 25 richer offers on 7/1.

@NHLJackManning A little revisionist history..I wish VGK had picked their spots a little better though. At the time I thought Hertl/Hannifin weren’t good value. I don’t have the receipts to prove it 🤣. I think it was obvious that Hughes was not staying in Vancouver. Good GM’s should know that.

Nobody loves prospects more than me. I've certainly criticized trades, but Vegas has kept this team competitive as stars have aged. With a rising cap, UFAs aren't reaching free agency anymore. This year's only big UFA is Tuch, who will get overpaid. There are no gifts in the NHL.

So after listening to McCrimmon, Tortorella, Stone, Eichel, and Hanifin it's clear the belief is that the team has not been playing with enough emotion and spirit. Nothing needs to change aside from these intangible things. I'm having a hard time understanding how/why this could only happen if Cassidy was fired and why it's suddenly a guarantee to happen now that he lost his job. If this is so obvious to everyone involved, why didn't they just do it yesterday? And also, isn't that the captain's job, not the coach's?

@SinBinVegas Pure insanity. I’m just mostly shocked that somebody who’s mostly smart about business would let someone run his business this way.

Bruce Cassidy won the Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights 1,020 days ago. He went 127-77-34 (.605) in the 2.9 seasons since. Absolutely ludicrous.

@FriedgeHNIC When is the league going to do something about this dirty play? When I turn on my TV, I want to see Matthews playing. I don’t want to dirty goons on the ice. They don’t deserve the privilege of playing. The game is dangerous enough without them.

@NHLJackManning I think people underestimate what battling through an injury really means. There is no way to simulate games during that time. He’ll find his game.

Adin Hill was very good last night. If #VegasBorn gets that kind of net performance every night, they are right there with the best teams in the league.

The Raiders have done something right in 4 straight months December: Sat Maxx Crosby and tanked January: Fired Pete Carroll February: Hired Klint Kubiak March: Traded Maxx Crosby The most competent stretch since the franchise moved to Las Vegas.

@NHLJackManning He’s still in there. And it’s not like he’s playing behind Alec Martinez and Petro anymore. This D core is a mess

@JesseGranger_ My only retort is that the front office really hasn’t acquired players that fit Bruce. in a vacuum I would pay to see Binnington go red ass on this d core they way they have played in early in games. Personally, I would keep working with Hill rather than spend more assets.

I've seen posts linking Binnington to Vegas. Here are my thoughts on the stylistic fit: Listen to Bruce Cassidy talk about his goalies. Whenever one is on a heater, and we ask Bruce his thoughts on why, he almost always, without fail, uses the phrase "playing between his posts." Cassidy's system asks the goalie to play deeper and be in position for shots that they're trying to force the opposition to take. "Staying between your posts" may be the single thing Cassidy covets most from his goalies. I'm not saying Binnington can't change, but he plays outside of his posts more than just about every goalie in the NHL. This is not to say the trade can't happen, or that it couldn't work if VGK improve the way they've defended in front of their net. It's simply an observation that I don't believe Binnington's style of play is a perfect fit for what Cassidy looks for in a goalie.

@JesseGranger_ If you could quantify that, it would be a really good proxy for how well the goalie reads the play. But we ain’t getting that data 🤣

I’ve put a lot of thought into it, and have ideas but nothing fully formed. Even the ideas I have, I have no idea if the PA would ever allow the player-tracking data to be used for it. But I think quantifying how often a goalie is square to the puck by monitoring their position in relation to it would be a really fun, useful stat.

I don’t know if there’s a goalie where the eye test and the statistics are more mismatched than Joonas Korpisalo this season. He ranks 37th in GSAX (0.3 via @MoneyPuckdotco), and 40th in save % (.896). And yet, every time I watch Korpisalo he is awesome. Maybe I’m wrong but I think he’s playing great hockey.

@JesseGranger_ for sure. You would probably need full body movement monitoring. An algorithm to track how the goalie reacts to infinitely many different situations. It hurts my head just to think about it haha

@Jeff_Ferdinand At least, the stats are. I think the actual goaltending is very individual, almost like they’re playing a different sport from everyone else. But the statistics we currently use to grade goalies are very much a product of the team. Some day we’ll figure out better metrics.

@Jeff_Ferdinand The margins are incredibly slim, and there are so many factors out of your control. You get the glory, and the blame. Sometimes they’re deserved, often times they aren’t.
