I say Babe Ruth would fucking rake today too. Motherfucker got off a train to swing a 9-pound bat at filthy dead-ass baseballs with guys throwing spitballs at his fucking head without a helmet while he was drunk. Pretty sure he could hit Zac Gallen.

Sylvester Stallone on why sentimentality is a strength, not a weakness: In a 1979 interview, Stallone was asked about his bold belief in what kind of films audiences were ready to receive, and whether he feared being labeled sentimental. His answer reframed the entire idea. "Sentimentality is just a highfalutin word for heart, for guts, for things that don't deal with the mind but deal with the soul." For Stallone, dismissing sentimentality meant dismissing the very thing that made stories matter. He pointed to Rocky as proof: "Rocky was a very, very simple story, but it touched the heart. And I'm not saying that there's not room for many, many other types of films, of course there are, but I feel as though no one should shy away from the word 'corniness' or 'sentimentality' because it's very, very important." He then connected sentimentality to something deeper, our earliest and most open selves: "It takes us back to our childhood when we're very flexible, very pliable, and very innocent and naive. That's a good way to be, I think. Just because we get older, there's no reason that we should lose our vulnerability, and that's why I do it." Earlier in the same interview, Stallone shared what he wanted his life's work to ultimately mean: "I want to be able to accept responsibility and be able to produce films… that really are responsible, that have something to say about life that will better life. And that perhaps when I go to my grave, they'll say, 'Well, he made some contributions.'" He framed his own story as evidence that anyone could do the same: "That man really has an unshakable spirit of optimism and he can do anything he wants if he applies himself, because I'm a living testimonial to that. I mean, I think if I can do it, anybody can do it. It's just a matter of applying yourself."
