5th graders @SartoriSTEM are making containers to observe changes over time. Many factors might cause change! ☀️💧🌡🐛🦠 So what factor(s) are important/responsible for making dead things "disappear"? How could we test that? That's next! 🪱🌿🍂🥕🍓 @nextgenstoryli1 @MrsCalvario

5th graders @SartoriSTEM met a new tool today... @microbit_edu! Today they started with a dice program. They will spend the next few lessons learning more about inputs, outputs, and remixing project ideas before planning their own projects 💻

Yes! My students are obsessed! We continued working when we got back after lunch. After they all got the dice working, they started tinkering and coming up with their own programs already! 4 students sharing screens on the promethean board as they worked & it inspired all! 💜

Without the state tests last year, my students and I have just been sitting here for a month now, twiddling our thumbs and wishing we knew what we were supposed to be learning. Praise be that the almighty state tests are back this year to help us know what to do. /s

@SartoriSTEM 5th graders decide to try and figure out all the reasons Ss may keep camera off or be reluctant to participate. They brain dumped all the reasons it could be... with rearranging of cohorts next week, the plan is to address some of these very things! @thinksci

My @Renton_Schools @SartoriSTEM 5th graders want to “level up” their spring trimester! Their jamboard illustrates what they believe we need more & less of to make that happen! @thinksci thanks for the support in this work! Survey data will be a powerful tool to make it happen!

@thinksci @Renton_Schools @SartoriSTEM Tomorrow the ? is going to be “Why do you think some students may prefer to have videos off at times? Why do you think some students prefer to stay muted at times?” Trying to understand that so that we can create a plan that will hopefully increase participation (and cameras on)!

My @Renton_Schools @SartoriSTEM 5th graders continued digging into what it means to “level up”. Letting the “more cameras on” and “more participation” movement be THEIR OWN GOALS for our class! Today, they looked at class survey data and did notice and wonders! @thinksci

@thinksci @Renton_Schools @SartoriSTEM I’ll have to ask! I’ve been letting kids self select this week without any restrictions on group size, and they usually are self selecting groups of 3-4. But maybe that’s because it’s what I typically do when I assign?

@MrsCalvario @Renton_Schools @SartoriSTEM Question: What are 5th graders preferences for group size in a breakout? I tend to do groups of 3 or 4 but had a push today to consider a group of 5 or 6 to be more energizing. 🤔 Now I want to know!

Ordered this 2021 calendar to learn about important events in U.S. history (past & present) that, largely, were left out/not part of my education thus far. If you're near me and would like one LMK, I purchased a multi pack so I have a few extras. shop.eji.org/products/eji-c…

If you're struggling for a way to give authentic positive feedback (instead of surface-level praise), here's the frame I use: You used to [identify error or gap in knowledge] but now you [identify new skill/understanding] because you [identify the action that led to learning].

@Mr_Rablin I’ve found that giving a solid chuck of time each Friday for getting feedback from students on what’s going well, and what could be better has been so incredibly valuable in making online learning meaningful for students. My 5th graders are loving that routine!

If it isn't working for kids, it isn't working for kids. End of story. I switched my LMS because of a nearly unanimous vote. I redesigned my weekly content drop and change my support hours because of my feedback form. Let's not pretend we know what we're doing. Ask the kids.

Had my 5th graders work collaboratively in zoom breakout rooms to give me some feedback about what’s working well, what could be better, and to get ideas from them to try and implement next week! @LizaRickey they want jokes! 😂 @SartoriSTEM @Renton_Schools
