The content goal at the Future of Education Technology Conference was to showcase the infinite possibilities and unlimited creativity of students when they are empowered with technology skills— from student produced night time drone shows, class projects in the VR Classroom created in the metaverse to student elementary voices on a keynote, high school students teaching AI literacy and sharing internship opportunities — all to highlight how student futures are enhanced with #edtech! The most beautiful thing in this world is to build something impactful and meaningful for people you care deeply about, that is @fetc for me! Creating a space for administrators and educators to learn in a joyful ecosystem full of creative possibilities & engaging and relevant opportunities is the goal of Future of Education Technology Conference ! This year my focus was empowering all voices and showcasing the incredible work from around the country so it can be scaled to districts & schools with fidelity and #FETC is seen as a launch pad for ideas and technology integration when attendees return to their districts inspired and informed with the support of a connected community! Thank you to our amazing team from marketing, sales, operations, tech team, DA Leadership Institute and District Administration magazine who build an amazing experience that impacts K12 education nationwide! 🧡🔥🧡 Grateful to our 2026 FETC Team: Amanda Holsclaw Amy Dujon Angela Card Barbara Edwards, CMP, SEPC Bianca Maldonado Caliann Mitoulis Christina Arzapalo Diane Eakin Donnie Whitten, Ed.D. #WhatAreYouReadingWednesday I was lucky to meet Jeanene Dutt, Ed.D of Becoming Your Best Global Leadership at @AASAHQ , The School Superintendents Association conference and thanks to her generosity, I am able to suggest a great read today! I highly recommend Start with the Vision: Six Steps to Effectively Plan, Create Solutions, and Take Action by Steven Shallenberger and Robert Shallenberger for anyone leading projects, navigating change, or seeking more intentional growth in work and life. This self-coaching guide with reflective templates at the end of each chapter, changed the way I think about problem-solving because it reframes challenges in a positive, forward-focused way—starting with the VISION instead of the problem. With plain language, encouragement, practical examples, and a clear Six-Step Process, it offers a powerful, practical framework for creating solutions, reducing resistance, and building an actionable path toward meaningful results.

This seems like a critical reason to open up about AI use in academia. Scholars are using old AI models, badly, and not talking about it. New models hallucinate very few citations, and good agentic harnesses drop that further. Being open about use would help us make new norms.

United States is the country with the most billionaires in 2025, with 902. California ranks #1 in the United States for the number of billionaires. Wealth distribution in America is at a critical tipping point when public school Superintendents are having to manage the homeless crisis for their students. This is happening all across America and our children deserve better. School districts offer homeless students & families shelter in parking lots! School districts, including San Diego Unified and Cincinnati Public Schools, are opening parking lots as temporary shelters for homeless students and their families. This initiative, started in San Diego in partnership with Jewish Family Service, provides families with a safer alternative to street homelessness, offering amenities like security and portable restrooms. 🚨 For all those wondering about their professional future in the "age of AI," don't miss this GREAT article by @AshishDhawanTCF and @PramathSinha. It's especially relevant for teenagers, young professionals, and parents who are trying to provide the best possible advice to their children about which skills and careers to focus on today. The AI debate has led millions to rethink their careers and professional choices (as I see in every new cohort of my AI Governance Training). The interesting part is that it might end up bringing people closer to their interests, values, talents, and mission, in a deeper, more existential sense. As with previous technological waves, we know that work will be disrupted (although it's still unclear exactly how). Hopefully, we will both individually and collectively manage to adapt and thrive.

Nine months ago, @JessicaCabeen and I began discussing a challenge we were both seeing in the leaders we coach every day—the relentless pace, pressure, and demands of leadership. Hustle culture had become the norm, and we felt compelled to offer leaders a healthier, more sustainable way forward. From those conversations, we developed The Drip Effect: Breaking Free From Hustle Culture—a practical framework designed to help leaders slow down, regain clarity, and rediscover their rhythm. We’re excited to share that the book is now in its final editing stage and will be available for pre-order soon. To celebrate the launch, we’ll be offering: • 40% off the retail price of $23.99 on Amazon • 50% off bulk orders of 25 or more for a limited time To inquire about bulk pre-orders, visit connectedd.org/contact Quantities and discounts are limited, so don’t wait.

#MotivationMonday Over the past few years, the @FETC State Network Alliance has grown to connect leading K-12 education technology organizations at the state level to create a powerful national platform for professional development, innovation sharing, and strategic collaboration. This initiative amplifies the voice of local leaders while providing national recognition and access to new opportunities. We met in person this January at the Future of Education Technology Conference as leaders from across the country to share best practices! These founding members represent a diverse range of regional leaders who are shaping the future of learning in their states and helping amplify that impact nationwide. We also hosted state meetups with all conference attendees to foster the growth of our partner visionary K-12 organizations that are committed to advancing innovation, professional growth, and equitable access to education technology. I am proud that my home state of Florida is represented by the board members of FCITL (FLORIDA COUNCIL OF INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY LEADERS). Working in partnership, elevating edtech and amplifying what works together as State Network Alliance! Thanks to our partners: @LEARN21 / @ETLA Stacy Hawthorne, Ed.D. New OECD data show how much socio-economic status shapes children’s cognitive and emotional development. But activities that parents do with their children still make a difference in their learning outcomes, regardless of their background. Read more: oecd.org/en/publication…

#MotivationMonday Reflections from an informative visit to the The Brookings Institution to engage in deep conversations on the future of education, student privacy and digital access as hosted by Nicol Turner Lee, Jon Valant and Julia Fallon. This series of panels provided timely updates on the current state of the education ecosystem and the forces pulling on it from various directions. The education funding panel enlightened us on the current complexities of finance at both the state and national level and expressed the need for strategic, creative, outcomes based and community driven efforts. Tammy Kolbe, Andre M. Perry and Sarah Reber shared their current economic insights and ideas for systematic change. The children’s safety, privacy and security panel with Carla Wade, Sara Collins, Amelia Vance, and Michael Klein shared the urgency of proactively educating on cyber hygiene and infrastructure needs to support the academic needs of all students. The digital access and #AI panel spotlighted the work of Mary Burns and the analysis of the benefits and threats of AI in education. Joseph South, Anil Hurkadli and Antonio Tijerino discussed the ongoing role of #edtech to engage students in workforce ready approaches and illuminated the role of the ecosystem to support foundational practices. This deep dive into policy (and practical) issues was essential in our preparation to discuss timely topics with law makers. Thanks to @SIIA , Consortium for School Networking (@CoSN ) and @SETDA for organizing this informative day of learning. #Maythe4thBewithyou @fetc
