No bestie, you cannot pay me to crochet something for you. First of all, the yarn for that project costs $50. It’s going to take 60 hours to complete. If you’re offering me minimum wage (but I’ve been doing this for years so really?), 60 x $15.15 = $909 + cost of yarn = $959 That blanket is gonna run you almost $1,000. 😅 And that is why you cannot find real crocheted items in stores. And why you should hug your grandmama when she crochets something for you.

@cybrtrkguy Only thing I disagree with is the title — I don’t think this is a bear case this is just reality. As much as I consider it a game changer I couldn’t live without, it’s still a convenience/luxury that has very little tangible benefit, at least until it’s unsupervised.

I write this article not to be a voice of FUD, but rather to bring context to Tesla's owners and fanbase. The bear case is that millions of people in America have no reason to care, no money to spare, no trust to give, and no idea how far it's come. What do you think?

@wholemars To be completely fair, Blockbuster did almost kill Netflix, but a new CEO came in and ended their digital product. So it is possible for the incumbent to be the primary beneficiary. I don’t believe Uber will be #1 in autonomy, but they are likely to become competitive.

If they were ready to sell them, they would sell them.
Phil Trubey@PTrubey

We interviewed @adcock_brett during Figure's livestream yesterday and one of the most interesting take aways was that Figure isn't in a hurry to get their bots into customer hands. He said that if they wanted to they could sell thousands of bots right now to do productive work, and I believe him. It would also mean scaling a sales, support and engineering support organization. But Figure (like Tesla) is playing the long game and wants to make the holy grail of AI robotics: A robot you can verbally describe a brand new task it hasn't been trained on and it will then be able to perform it. Or as the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy puts it: "The marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation defines a robot as 'Your Plastic Pal Who's Fun to Be With.'" Sorry, couldn't resist. Brett said he sees a path in their roadmap to this, and they have the resources to do the R&D to build an "Apple" level quality product: polished, performant and ready to be used by anyone. My guess is that we're about two years away from this, which happens to be when Tesla's giant Optimus factory will be built and building robots, so Tesla is approximately on the same timeline. In the meanwhile, it'll be fun watching the progress. More info on Brett's interview yesterday. Share and Enjoy! x.com/PTrubey/status…

They stimulate a beyond natural response, which is super helpful for losing weight more effortlessly, but also not great nutritionally for the body. Simplified example: high protein foods create more satiety than simple carbs. Part of hunger is telling us the body needs more nutrients. GLP-1s don’t help shift our diet towards a more nutrient dense lifestyle, they primarily just help people to eat less. So it still comes down to each individual making the right choices. Basically, GLP-1s can be great because they rapidly accelerate someone’s progress to a healthier lifestyle. They can also be harmful when someone doesn’t make any changes other than eating less quantity. Either way, I support people doing whatever works best for them!

Part of the reason GLP-1 meds work is it stimulates natural GLP-1 satiety hormones. The irony being those receptors r very often damaged by diet culture advice like, "just eat 1 200 calories or less", don't eat olive oil or nuts, eat fat free options
Jenko Kent@JenkoKent

@VPregel @drterrysimpson @DrSuneelDhand It is, but most people don’t want to give up the addictive foods they love. With proper nutritional education, everyone could eat both less calories and more quantity of food at the same time.

@SawyerMerritt @Starlink I voted yes but there is more to it. I would only consider connectivity if the routing were similar (nonstop vs nonstop, one stops with similar layover, etc) and then I would consider it alongside schedule, price, and alliance.

No. I want it, but it’s a bonus/nice to have. Good route/schedule comes first (flight time, nonstop, etc.). Airline quality comes second (in US, JetBlue whenever possible). Price is third (sometimes tied second). Aircraft flying the route comes fourth (newer vs older, configuration, etc). Miles partnerships come fifth (eg is it OneWorld vs StarAlliance vs other). Everything else is good to know but not really decision influencing (eg wifi, if that airlines terminal has a lounge, etc).

@DillonLoomis 99.9% of the time it doesn’t need your eyeballs, but if you drive 10,000 miles a year, statistically 10 times a year you’ll be glad you were paying attention. Just accept it as a supervised system for now — it’s not only regulation that’s stopping it from becoming unsupervised.

I wouldn’t want to guess anything you’re personally eating/not eating, but there a lot of foods that are objectively “good for you” but aren’t good for weight loss. E.g. nuts, avocado, too many grains, etc. Then there are foods marketed as healthy alternatives, but aren’t (eg cereal, granola, honey, etc). Tons of processed “health” products are awful as well, like a lot of protein bars (this is the #1 thing I eat way more of than I should). There are also “flavor” foods that add up — eg sauces, where you can easily cut out 100-200 calories by switching them to spices (not everyone uses sauces etc obviously). Even fattier cuts of meat/fish have more calories than leaner cuts, so while both are very good for you, the former aren’t great for weight loss. And none of the above is “bad” but if one has the specific objective of losing weight, it’s easy to stack up too many calories eating otherwise healthy foods. I also think there’s personal subjectivity — I eat one serving of pretzels a day, which clearly aren’t an optimal choice, but help me stay on track by helping me feel fuller, and giving me a salt snack to eat while I watch TV. The same with my protein bars — I shouldn’t have that many, but they satisfy my sweet tooth and help stop me making a worse choice. Mostly though, my point is really just that most people, myself included, have more room to shave calories out of their diet than they realize. Even if you personally are not one of them. (I’m bored too, so figured I’d respond in more depth to facilitate a more nuanced discussion!)

All the discipline in the world does not change that we need a GLP-1. It is just like saying we need discipline to control our insulin, our breathing, our blood pressure. It isn't that simple. I'm a surgeon - I don't think many have more discipline than I do.

@estellemartin_1 @archibaldcrane @jjuddpi @drterrysimpson 100% doesn’t apply to you. Lots of people with various autoimmune diseases are in the same boat as you on that too. That’s part of what frustrates me about the original post — you are living a totally different weight struggle to everyone else, and he’s equating the two.

On a GLP-1 I eat normally - don't know what "clean" is other than free of norovirus. I eat out at restaurants, I enjoy holiday meals, and they are not cheats it is just eating. You seem to be suffering - I am not. I also don't count calories.
Jenko Kent@JenkoKent

@jponline77 @drterrysimpson (And yes I have to count calories daily, and it’s a struggle and takes years, which is why it’s so hard. Most people can’t accept, for example, that they basically need to commit to clean eating for years. No restaurants, no holiday splurges, maybe 2-3 “cheats”/mo max.)
