@HonitelHQ @feyiszn My own Mummy allowed us to talk about boys we had interest in ooo. We said the craziest things man 😂😂 Even when my sister had heartbreak at 15 years and was crying bitterly, my Mum was the one consoling her. The things my Mum does will shock other African parents.

There’s a common trait among Nigerian parents: they spend years scolding and warning you about having a boyfriend or girlfriend. In fact, they treat the words “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” as taboo. As a teenager, they don’t want to see you around the opposite sex. When you become a university student, they give you stern warnings against dating, telling you all sorts of reasons why you shouldn’t indulge and should instead focus strictly on your studies. Then you graduate, and suddenly they’re subtly asking, or worse, pressuring you to bring a partner home. They begin to casually ask about your “man” or “woman,” bringing up marriage as if the relationships they once warned you to avoid will now magically appear. As if a partner is supposed to fall from heaven, despite their long-standing disapproval of dating. Even when you eventually tell them you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, they’d rather refer to the person as “your friend,” as though the words “boyfriend” or “girlfriend” are inappropriate. Some might think they were trying to protect us, but that approach is deeply flawed. We are social and sexual beings. There’s no good reason to scold your children (read: adults), for dating. Instead, parents should enlighten them about relationships and teach them how to give and receive love. One of the ripple effects of this approach is that when you start dating, you may struggle to open up when you’re being treated badly. You can be heartbroken and unable to confide in your parents because they never created a safe space for those conversations. That said, we can cut them some slack; this is their first time being parents. Still, we should aim to do better. Dating is natural. Don’t discourage grown children from dating or talking about their relationships with you. When they face relationship challenges, you should be the first person they turn to. Being a parent means being a safe space, a home, before anything else.

@Hor_lar_yin_kar @ayomilolu74 People got admission with 13 and lower. A friend of mine is studying philosophy with 9 points. If you're going for competitive courses read well and target 16 or nothing. The more people know about JUPEB and register for it, the more competitive it becomes.

If nothing is done about this CNG bus situation, next session’s balloting may turn chaotic. After that, illegal bedspace selling will likely follow, making things even worse. Imagine students leaving hostels by 6am just to attend an 8am class while dealing with the country’s already weak security situation. We are calling public attention to the unnecessary hardship OAU students have been subjected to. We never asked for CNG buses in the first place. If introduced, they should make life easier, not more difficult. Please retweet for wider reach whether you are an OAU student or not. This affects us all.

OAU students are suffering. The 72-hour lecture boycott by the students' union yielded no results. We had a very efficient transport system, and now we are forced by people who have their own private cars to enter CNG buses and motorcycles, which have proven to be very inefficient. To meet up with 9 AM classes, you have to leave your hostel by 6 AM. All motorcycles and commercial buses have been stopped. This is my fourth year in this school, and I have never experienced this type of queue. We are calling the attention of the public to the unnecessary plight OAU students have been subjected to. Please retweet for a wider audience whether you are an OAU student or not. We never asked for CNG buses. It should help make life better and not difficult for us

My name is Abdul Wahab. I am pleading with my Football Twitter (FT) family and everyone on this app to please RT. I am on the verge of losing a life-changing opportunity simply because of where I come from, and I have worked too hard to bottle it now. I grew up in extreme poverty in a small village called Kwabenantene in the Ahafo Region. I am the very first person in my family and my entire village to ever get a university education. My path was never easy. To survive undergrad, I literally had to drop out of classes mid-semester, pack my bags, and go back home to do heavy construction work just to raise enough money to survive the next term. I was laying bricks to pay for my textbooks. Despite having zero financial safety net, I poured my blood and sweat into my studies and graduated with First-Class Honours in Economics, ranking in the top 1% of my entire cohort of 435 students. But I didn’t just want to succeed alone; I went back to my village, gathered the youth, and started teaching and mentoring them. Because of that work, two students from my locality have now successfully made it into university too. I want to lift my people up. All this hard work finally paid off: I just received admission into the highly prestigious, integrated Masters/Ph.D. Economics program at Goethe University Frankfurt (GSEFM) in Germany! My tuition is officially 100% waived. However, I am facing a massive roadblock. Because the program is so competitive, I wasn't put directly into the fully-funded Ph.D. cohort right away. Instead, I was admitted to the MSQ track for Year 1. I will take the exact same rigorous classes alongside the Ph.D. students, and if I pass my Year 1 qualifying exams, I transition directly into the fully-funded Ph.D. I know I will pass those exams. The academics don't scare me. The finances do. My only problem right now is getting funding to cover my Year 1 living expenses in Frankfurt. If I can just survive these first 12 months, the Ph.D. funding takes over and my future is secured. To my FT family: you guys know my grind and my loyalty. If I get this lifeline, I promise I will proudly represent FT in every academic hall, conference, and research room I ever step into. I just need a chance to be in the room. I cannot let a lack of living expenses kill a dream I built with my bare hands. If you know of any scholarships, foundations, philanthropists, or anyone who can sponsor a village boy for just one year, PLEASE tag them or reach out. Please RT this until it reaches the right timeline. Let’s make this happen! 🌍📚🙏🏾
