#CAIPEchat focus on care of the patients brings professions together

@CAIPEUK A1 we have had some great experiences working with other larger AHPs who are keen to share knowledge and experience working with overlapping patients such as neuro rehab or stroke patients. We can learn from each other and improve services for patients #CAIPEchat

Our #SLT students worked with students teachers in IPE. The ratio was about 6:1. It needed careful set up and activities in which the SLT students were confident. Adding a 3rd profession - social work - helped #CAIPEchat

A2 #CAIPEchat you understand professions best if you work with them. It's important that smaller professions are as visible as possible in #ipe

#CAIPEchat good point, small professions get good at raising their profile and promoting their role
Brighton Orthoptics@BTNOrthoptics

@CAIPEUK #CAIPEchat A2 it is easy for the smaller professions to be misunderstood. Our visibility is low and the work we do is not always well understood. However I think we can help ourselves more by speaking up about and being more vocal about the work we do

A1 #CAIPEchat if your profession is not well understood referrals may not be appropriate. I've been told, "I don't know why you're working with him" as others don't really know what I do.

A1 @caipeuk Members of small professions are spread very thinly and may travel to different settings. It can be hard to find time and space to liaise with others #CAIPEchat

A1 #CAIPEchat as a #SLT I was often the only one working in other people's "territory" e.g. a clinic or school. This brought challenges e.g. space, explaining my role but also taught me networking and negotiation skills.

A3 It can sometimes be hard to explain that IPE is not just putting students together. @CAIPEuk guidelines and definition useful #CAIPEchat
