It looks like a children's book but it's actually a very insightful book about #SEM instrument function, sample preparation, artefacts, and applications. Thank you, Karen, for the cute resource!

Two decades ago, @WesternU welcomed me and the "double cohort" into the Western community. For me, OWeek was an experience I'll never forget. To all the new 1st years of 2023, welcome to Western! I hope you have an amazing #OWeek. Have fun and stay safe!

Today, I felt like an academic baby dinosaur. An incoming 1st year student asked me, "What was university like in the past?" A genuine and valid question. To me, the phrasing implied a time period in the 1900s. He meant the early 2000s...when I was an undergrad. Now, I feel old.

If this gets to 10k supporters it has the possibility of becoming a real Lego set. Tell me you don't want a Lego microscope on your desk! ideas.lego.com/projects/36bac…

Today is my first day as an Assistant Professor at @WesternU. I'm excited for this new chapter of my "academic journey" to begin. I am grateful for my mentors, collaborators, and friends who have supported me. I look forward to developing #geomicrobiology here @westernuEarth.

Silk strands emerging from glands on a spider’s abdomen. Spider silk is a protein that hardens as it emerges. It can be as strong as steel, has wound healing properties and is being investigated for microscale optical fibres. By Dr Bronwen Cribb @CMMUQ1 #microscopymondays

Meet Gordon, a microbiologist on #exp399 from University of Queensland. Gordon negotiates with the geologists to secure rocks that will be smashed with a hammer into smaller pieces to look for evidence of microbes. What questions do you have for Gordon?

We have microbiologists on #Exp399 collecting samples from the cores we bring up from below the sea floor. Since the team is looking for the presence of microbes, it is important for everyone to wear appropriate PPE to protect the samples from potential contamination
